Redness and irritation, black spots and acne, a feeling of tightness, itching and peeling are signs of sensitive facial skin. At the same time, almost everything can cause itching and irritation – from improperly selected cosmetics, including decorative ones, and junk food to bad ecology and stress.
How to choose a product for sensitive skin?
The most difficult thing for owners of this type of skin is to choose the right care products. First of all, it is worth switching to hypoallergenic cosmetics, which are usually sold in pharmacies. When choosing, pay attention to the composition: there should be thermal water, which additionally softens and soothes the epidermis, as well as allantoin, which has anti-inflammatory properties. However, you should be wary of products that contain plant extracts and essential oils, such products are often “environmentally friendly”, but the natural products contained in them often cause severe irritation or allergies.
Care for sensitive problematic skin
Sensitive problematic facial skin does not tolerate scrubs with large abrasive particles and powerful peels, which can cause additional irritation. Also forget about any cosmetics with a high concentration of alcohol or one that contains a lot of preservatives – there is absolutely no need to additionally dry the epidermis. After such an intervention, even a moisturizing nourishing cream will not immediately save sensitive problem skin.
Care for dry and sensitive skin
Dry and sensitive facial skin does not like tap water, especially hard water. Therefore, care for sensitive skin should begin with the use of micellar water instead of a gel or foam cleanser. The particles (micelles) dissolved in it attract and remove impurities and excess sebum without overdrying the skin. In addition, using micellar water, you save your face from contact with tap water. If you choose micellar water based on thermal water, you will minimize the risk of irritation. It can also be used as a make-up remover – however, remember that if you use waterproof mascara or made yourself smoky eyes, you will have to be patient and use cotton pads.
Care for oily and sensitive skin
But for cleansing oily sensitive skin prone to acne, micellar water is not enough. Care for sensitive problematic facial skin should begin with a cleansing gel that removes excess sebum well. Lather a small amount of gel in the palms of your hands and apply with massaging movements on the skin of the face and neck, paying special attention to the forehead, nose and chin, avoiding the eye contour area. Wash off with warm water – not hot and not cold, because this is an additional stress for the epidermis. It is even better to wash off the gel not with tap water, but with drinking water. After washing, be sure to apply a moisturizer so that the epidermis does not dry out.
Caring for the skin around the eyes
The area around the eyes is the most sensitive, so redness and irritation first of all fall to its share. Therefore, to remove eye makeup, choose products specially designed for this purpose, and specifically for sensitive skin based on thermal water. They are also suitable for those who wear lenses.
