Semolina porridge on water: recipe
How to cook porridge without milk
With this basic semolina recipe, you can easily cook classic porridge in water. You will need: – 2 cups of purified water; – 3 tbsp. l. sugar; – 50 g semolina; – butter; – salt; – vanilla, cinnamon, jam, prunes, nuts – to taste; – oregano, marjoram, black pepper – to taste; – 1 carrot; – 2-3 tomatoes …
Semolina porridge is best cooked in a thick-bottomed stainless steel pot, so it will be less likely to burn. Boil 2 cups of water with 3 tablespoons of sugar. Wait until the sugar is completely dissolved, and pour 50 g of semolina (this is about 2,5 tablespoons) into a saucepan in a thin stream. At the same time, so that unpleasant lumps do not form in the porridge, stir it continuously with a spoon or fork.
Reduce heat and, continuing to stir so that the porridge does not burn at the bottom, cook it for 5 minutes. Then turn off the heat, cover the pan with a lid and let the porridge brew for another 5-7 minutes: this way the cereal will swell better, and the porridge will turn out more tender.
To make the porridge taste brighter, add a small pinch of salt to the water
One of the simplest semolina flavor enhancers is butter. Add a small slice of it to each plate, and the porridge will taste much tastier. As a rule, semolina is eaten for breakfast, and therefore it is customary to add sweet toppings to it. Try putting a vanilla pod or a cinnamon stick in the water while cooking. They will set off the taste of porridge, giving it dessert notes. In the absence of natural products, extracts and even vanilla sugar or ground cinnamon powder are also suitable.
In quantity, be guided only by the tastes of the household. The amount of sugar during cooking can also vary, but do not get carried away, because first of all, porridge is a breakfast that helps the body wake up, and not a delicacy. By adding various jams, fresh berries, prunes or nuts, you will only make the semolina more delicious, and also diversify it, which will benefit the taste buds.
For those who do not like sweets
You can make semolina porridge, for example, with carrots. To do this, grate one carrot on a fine grater and simmer it in a little water in the same saucepan in which you plan to cook the porridge. Next, add sugar and remaining water to the carrots and boil them. Then follow the instructions above. Such porridge will turn out not only tasty, but also pleasant to look at. But a nicely served dish always whet the appetite.
You can also cook Indian-style semolina in water, with tomatoes. For this recipe, fry the tomatoes cut into rings with spices: oregano, marjoram, parsley, black pepper, salt. At the same time, boil the semolina in water according to the usual recipe, excluding the addition of sugar.
After the porridge is ready, gently stir in the tomatoes or place them on top on a plate. This is a rather exotic dish, but it is worth trying it at least in order to feel the taste of distant India. You can experiment with spices at your discretion, the only thing is not to get carried away with them, so as not to hammer the delicate taste of porridge.
