Apples “Semerenko” are a real decoration of any garden. This variety is rightfully considered one of the most popular among gardeners. It is easy to distinguish Semerenko from other varieties by the bright color of spring foliage and fruit color. But there are other differences that need to be known for those who are going to start breeding them.

General description of the “Semerenko” apple tree

“Semerenko” is a late-ripening, partially self-fertile variety. The number of ovaries during self-pollination is only 1-10% of the total number of flowers. In view of this, in one area it is necessary to plant other varieties that help the pollination process, these can be “Idared”, “Golden Delicious” or “Korey”.

Apples “Semerenko” are hypoallergenic and are recommended for inclusion in the diet for children and pregnant women

The crop is formed approximately 5-6 years after planting. For the first 10 years, the yield of one tree is about 15–20 kg. After reaching the age of 10, its amount increases sharply to 100–120 kg. The apple tree bears fruit most actively until about 15 years, then the collection volumes gradually decrease

The trees of the “Semerenko” variety are medium-sized, the branches are located in relation to the trunk at an angle of 60 °. The crown is lush, has a rounded or arched shape. The bark of the tree is dark gray, showing a bright orange hue in sunlight. Leaves are light green with small denticles at the edges. The disadvantages include low frost resistance of apple trees and susceptibility to fungal diseases.

Apple tree “Semerenko” – characteristics of fruits

Fruits of the “Semerenko” variety most often have a rounded slightly flattened shape. The color of the apples is bright green, with a late harvest, a slight blush may appear over the greens. The pulp of apples is juicy, taste sweet and sour, has a pronounced pleasant aroma. The structure of the flesh is fine-grained, and its color is snow-white or slightly greenish.

In its composition, Semerenko apples contain a rich supply of vitamins C, B, E, as well as a large amount of pectin, carotene, biotin, potassium and iron.

The mass of one fruit of the “Semerenko” variety is from 150 to 200 g. The keeping quality of apples is high; when stored for 6-8 months, apples retain their presentation and taste. During long-term storage, a slight yellowing of the surface of the fruit and changes in the structure of the pulp – it becomes more granular.

Fruits of the “Semerenko” variety are widely used for canning, making preserves and jams. And the high content of vitamins and minerals necessary for health will come in handy in the cold winter.
