Positive self-reinforcement is the reinforcement of the desired behavior by a conditioned signal in oneself.
With the help of conditional signals given to yourself, it is much faster and more pleasant to develop the behavior you need in yourself.
For example, if you are learning to drive a car, then you need to notice not what you did badly, but what you did well! Even if it’s just the correct position of the foot on the pedals or the position of the hands on the steering wheel. When learning a dance, musical notation, a poem, preparing a performance and any other learning activity, one must give oneself constant reinforcement for a correctly performed action. Reinforcements can be anything, but not in large quantities. For example, you can reinforce yourself at the moment of correct execution with a small piece of chocolate or a mental approving word: Well done!
Can’t stand ironing? Treat yourself to a candy for every ironed bedding set. Or let yourself lie on the couch watching a silly TV series after heroically scrubbing all the tiles in the bathroom.
If the case is very large in volume, then in this case we break this case into a large number of small and simple intermediate tasks and for each successfully completed intermediate task we give ourselves positive self-reinforcement.
For example, you need to go three times a week for three hours to courses on which your future depends. The courses are interesting, but the road to the courses causes a terrible protest. How to motivate yourself for such a long journey? With reinforcements. Break mentally the road into several of the easiest intermediate steps: here, I left the house (one step), reached the stop (second step), took the bus to the metro stop (third step), rode the metro (fourth step), etc. d. Each time an intermediate step ends, but has not yet ended, we give ourselves our favorite self-reinforcement (a nut, a piece of chocolate, praise). At first it may seem strange, but the result is worth it! After a while, you will notice that there is no internal resistance to such a long journey. At this point, you need to switch to random reinforcements. Once or twice every trip, we randomly give ourselves self-reinforcement. As a result, the amount of self-reinforcement will become equal to zero, and the skill of the easy road will remain.
