Self-acceptance, self-acceptance can have several steps. Firstly, it is the ability and habit to treat oneself and one’s own characteristics without negative connotation, just as a given. To simplify, the wish “Accept yourself and these features of yours” has a very simple translation: “Stop biting yourself and swearing at yourself!”. Secondly, self-acceptance is a non-judgmental, unconditionally positive attitude towards oneself. Like a native. In this form, self-acceptance becomes a variant of motherly love for oneself.

In the Orthodox approach, instead of the word «self-acceptance» the word «humility» is used. Humility is rewarded by the grace of God, which descends on every true believer during prayer.

How about self-acceptance? In general, it is positive, but cautious, because it has its own problematic points.

On the one hand, self-acceptance is an important, obligatory moment in a person’s life. Self-acceptance promotes adequate self-esteem, emotional stability, and mental health. It is stupid and harmful when worthy people demand immediate perfection from themselves and, having made a mistake here or another, begin to gnaw at themselves and beat them severely for random mistakes. On the other hand, a high degree of self-acceptance can often turn into elementary undemanding, when a person “everything is fine” even in those cases when it is not at all good with him. Personal development should be accompanied by self-acceptance, but should not end with it.

How to develop self acceptance? Start developing a positive attitude, start keeping a Notebook of Success and a Diary of Gratitude.

Self-acceptance brings inner peace. For an experienced person, after many years of tormenting himself, this is already a lot. But this is not the end of personality development, but only a good start. Next good steps forward:

  • self-love, the ability and habit to treat yourself positively, with joy and care.
  • active attitude to their lives and their characteristics. If enuresis is not treated, it is better to be proud of it than to be ashamed and tormented. But even better — still improve your health.

And when you become an active person, you will face new tasks again. The habit of negative motivation must be supplemented by the development of positive motivation.
