Seborrheic dermatitis (PsA) is a dermatological disease that can appear at any age. Its symptoms can cause great discomfort and even lower self-confidence. Relief of symptoms, even of severe dandruff conditions, is possible thanks to appropriate dermocosmetics, e.g. specialized shampoos.
What is seborrheic dermatitis?
Seborrheic dermatitis (PsA) is a chronic disease that tends to recur. On the basis of observations and research, it has been proved that the cause of its occurrence is fungal infection Malassezia furfur and overactivity of the sebaceous glands. Seborrheic dermatitis generally occurs in healthy people, but it has been shown that a higher risk of developing it is in immunocompromised people, such as HIV infection. The likelihood of skin lesions is also increased in people who abuse alcohol, smoke tobacco, suffer from an eating disorder, and suffer from hormonal and immune disorders. Other factors that can trigger PsA include stress and fatigue as well as weather conditions (cold, cold).
The dermatological disease, which is seborrheic dermatitis, occurs in about 1-3 percent. population. Interestingly, there are two spikes in the incidence. The first is in early childhood (from 2 to 12 months of age), and the second is in adolescence. Men are slightly more likely to suffer from seborrheic dermatitis than women.
Seborrheic dermatitis is often confused with dandruff. It is worth remembering that dandruff is one of the symptoms that does not always have to be associated with skin inflammation.
Symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis
Symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis can appear in many places. Skin lesions are mainly located on the head, ears, eyebrows, nasolabial folds, upper back and chest. They are mainly:
● erythematous spots,
● greasy husks,
● hair thinning within lesions,
● redness,
● itching.
Dermatological changes can be troublesome, especially when they appear in visible places. For many people, symptoms are embarrassing, and they reduce quality of life and even self-esteem.
In infants, seborrheic dermatitis manifests as the so-called cradle cap, i.e. small, thick scales ranging in color from white to yellow. Most often it resolves spontaneously, but most parents decide to brush the scalp and use appropriate preparations, e.g. based on emollients.
How to fight seborrheic dermatitis?
The diagnosis of seborrheic dermatitis is made by a dermatologist. It is worth remembering that there is currently no treatment that effectively addresses the inflammation of the skin. However, it is possible to both reduce the frequency of the symptoms of PsA and alleviate them.
Symptoms of inflammation and seborrhoeic changes can be eliminated by, for example, a shampoo for treating severe dandruff – Ducray Kelual DS.
“- People struggling with the problem of dandruff should carefully choose products for washing their hair, because improperly selected shampoo can aggravate dandruff or seborrhea, and even cause skin inflammation. Over-the-counter products (shampoos, creams) can be the first step in the treatment of PsA. They show significant effectiveness in mild forms of this disease – speaking dr hab. n. med. Joanna Salomon, specialist in dermatology and venereology ”
It includes, among others ciclopiroxolamine, pyroctone olamine, beta-glyceritic acid and kelamide. The formula developed in this way makes the dandruff visibly reduced, the skin less red, and the itching sensation limited. It is worth using the cosmetic regularly (once a week) as a maintenance phase, because PsA has a tendency to recur. However, for a specialized shampoo to work properly, you need to keep it on the scalp for a long time (3 minutes).
