Sea buckthorn juice

Only the lazy have not heard about the healing and beneficial properties of sea buckthorn. These berries have absorbed all the best and most valuable from nature. They have been used as a cure for many ailments since ancient Chinese medicine. And if not everyone likes the use of the berries themselves because of their tart-sour taste, then, for example, sea buckthorn jam or sea buckthorn juice are eaten and drunk with pleasure by both adults and children.

Harvesting sea buckthorn – juice from berries – retains all valuable substances, minerals, acids, vitamins, and is as useful as fresh fruits of the plant. Juice is used in folk medicine and cosmetology, oil is extracted from it, jam is made, it is allowed to be consumed in small quantities by children under one year old.

Rules for collecting berries for harvesting

Unlike many other berries, sea buckthorn can be harvested not only at the end of summer or in the first weeks of autumn – these berries do not lose their usefulness and holistic appearance even after the first frost. The season begins in August and lasts until about the end of October, just making it possible to carry out other urgent kitchen-preparation work.

In order to collect sea buckthorn on your own, you will need some skill, a set of protective clothing (or just clothes that you won’t be sorry to throw away later), since in the process the berry splashes fly in all directions, a shallow wide bucket or basin, and a special device for removing berries from branches – you can make it yourself from wire. This process is not easy and time consuming, in addition, the harvested crop will then need to be thoroughly washed several times.

When choosing fruits on the market, you need to pay attention to the color – it should be bright orange. For the preparation of juice, berries with a whole skin are selected, without rot spots, without black dots. They should be elastic to the touch, but not too hard.

How to prepare juice: recipes and tips from housewives

A tasty delicacy of bright orange color is especially appreciated in the cold season, primarily because of the stimulating effect that it has on human immunity. You can buy it in stores or on the market, or you can cook it at home, taking into account your own taste preferences and preferences. In order for the workpiece to survive until winter, it is poured into a thin-walled saucepan, brought to a boil, constantly removing the foam, and poured into glass jars. The container must first be sterilized. Banks are corked with lids and sent to cool in a warm place.

Other popular recipes include a method of making concentrated sea buckthorn juice, which is made from berries with sugar. It is stored in sterile jars, and in order for it to become ready for use, it is diluted with boiled water, since initially water is not used in the cooking process. If it is necessary to obtain a product without pulp, it can be filtered through a fine sieve before being poured into jars. You can also prepare juice without boiling, but in this case, its shelf life is reduced to several weeks.

Classic versions of juice with boiling, provided that it is poured into sterile jars, will not deteriorate within 7-10 months. To do this, they need to be stored in a refrigerator or cellar. Recipes for making jam from sea buckthorn juice are also popular.
