History of the Sea Breeze cocktail
The first mention of the drink appeared in the 30s of the last century, and the original recipe included not vodka, but gin.
This is due to the fact that vodka at that time was not very common in the homeland of the cocktail – in the USA, and there were no other similar drinks at all.
In addition, the method of preparation was incomparably simpler than the current one – gin was simply mixed with grenadine and ice. That is why the cocktail became so popular in the United States, and besides, it was relatively inexpensive.
Very quickly, the Sea Breeze spread throughout the world, and in 1974 the International Bartenders Association (IBA) included the cocktail in the top ten best cocktails of that time.
The name of the cocktail was invented by a journalist who first tried it in one of the closed New York clubs.
Due to prohibition in the United States, the journalist could not fully describe the recipe on the pages of the newspaper, he used the metaphor of “a cocktail that the wind makes you feel while sitting on the seashore.” After this publication, everyone began to call the drink “Sea Breeze”.
