What to do if the LG washing machine malfunctions? Pay attention to signs of damage.
If the SE error code lights up on the washing machine display, then the SM can normally take water into the tank, however, when switching to washing, the program stops, the drum does not spin.
This breakdown is typical for direct-drive LG Direct Drive automatic machines, as well as belt-driven washers with a three-phase silent electric motor.
What does the SE code mean and why does it appear
It happens that the LG washing machine SE code is confused with the 5E error, due to the similarity of electronic characters. Whatever you call it, the fault remains the same.
The SE error code informs the user of a problem with the motor. Due to the fact that the motor shaft does not rotate, the drum does not scroll through the laundry.
However, this malfunction does not always require repair of the washer, it happens that you can remove the error yourself and solve the problem.
Why does the code light up
If the LG washing machine (LG) shows an SE error on the display, the reasons may be:
- Weak connections. You need to check all the connectors that are connected to the motor. It happens that they move away, which means that the contact is broken and the signal is interrupted. In addition, inspect the wiring harness from the motor to the control module. If something is broken, correct or replace the damaged section of the wire.
- A system failure could also cause an error to appear on the scoreboard. Unplug the washer by unplugging it from the socket (no more than 20 minutes). After switching on, the SE error must be reset.
If you were unable to remove the error, then you need to start repairing the parts. See below for how to troubleshoot.
How to repair
When CMA LG issues an SE error code, then in 90% of cases the reason lies in the breakdown of the tachogenerator (Hall sensor). This device controls the speed of rotation of the drum. Therefore, if it malfunctions, the drum “does not know” at what speed to work, and the system writes a fault code.
Sometimes it happens that the breakdown lies not in the tachogenerator, but in the combustion of the resistor. Then you need to replace the resistor.
In any case, it is necessary to check the tachometer. It is located below, on the motor shaft.
- Open the back of the machine.
- Remove the belt from the shaft and unscrew the motor mounting screws.
- Disconnect the connectors, remove the engine.
- Release the contacts of the tachogenerator, attach the multimeter probes to them.
- The part is serviceable with a resistance of about 60 ohms.
- Additionally, set up the tester to measure voltage.
- Checking the tachometer, scroll the engine. The norm is considered to be about 0,2 V.
If the Hall sensor is defective, a new element must be installed. What does this mean: with the engine removed, disconnect the tachogenerator wires, remove the cover. The cover can be fastened either with latches or with bolts that need to be unscrewed.
Remove the part and install the new one in reverse order.
What else can cause a breakdown:
- If the motor malfunctions, the SE error is on the screen of the LG washing machine, the washing process does not start. How to fix the situation: you need to change the motor. How to remove the engine from the CM has already been described above. Watch additional videos on the topic:
- If your washing machine does not rotate the drum, but writes an SE error, a control unit check is required. In case of breakage, it is easy to replace the unit. It is more difficult to repair the control board, solder the contacts and strip the tracks, so you can contact the service center.
- With constant vibrations during the spin cycle, inside the LG washing machine, wires and connections may fray or come off. Check wiring harness from control box to motor.
Before starting work and repairing the machine, do not forget to disconnect it from the network and communications. If the recommendations helped remove the SE error from the display and restored the LG CM to work, then everything was done correctly.
