Cocktail History Screwdriver
Cocktail Screwdriver (in English – Screwdriver), first appeared at the end of the XIX century and was very popular among Muslims around the world.
The fact is that those who profess Islam should not drink alcohol, and thus the cunning Arabs disguised gin – they simply diluted it with orange juice.
The first printed mention of the Screwdriver is dated October 24, 1949.
On this day, the American magazine Time came out, in which there was an entire article dedicated to the cocktail.
In the magazine, it was called “the drink of gigolos and ladies of easy virtue, gaining wild popularity.”
It is not clear why a popular magazine gave the cocktail such a description, but in the near future all bars began to demand this cocktail.
The cocktail got its name thanks to American engineers who liked to drink at work.
They added vodka or gin to orange juice jars, and then stirred with their working tool – a screwdriver.
In the original version of the cocktail served in bars, in addition to vodka and juice, a few drops of angostura were added.
Cocktail Variations Screwdriver
Sonic screwdriver – equal parts vodka and blue liqueur Blue Curaçao.
Gimlet – three parts gin and seven parts lime juice.
