Chlamydia trachomatis is a bacteria that is spread during unprotected sex. This sexually transmitted disease – the most common in France – is difficult to recognize due, most of the time, to the absence of symptoms. However, this STD can be transmitted to the fetus and cause premature birth or inflammation in the baby’s eyes and lungs. Left untreated, it can also lead to pelvic inflammation resulting in infertility or ectopic pregnancy.
What should alert you: you feel pain during or after sex, a burning sensation when you urinate, you have a purulent discharge, or your partner is a carrier of chlamydia. In this case, ask your midwife or doctor to take a vaginal sample. If it turns out positive, you will be prescribed antibiotics.
