It has long been proven and reiterated many times that daily consumption of a moderate dose of chocolate is beneficial to any body. This is, of course, about real chocolate with a minimum content of fat and sugar – bitter.
How does chocolate affect the work of the heart muscle?
Danish scientists from Harvard conducted experiments on control groups of men and women. They figured out and explained that there is a direct link between eating chocolate and reducing atrial fibrillation. Women ate 30 grams of chocolate a week, while men ate 60-90. In both cases, the incidence of arrhythmias decreased by more than 20 percent.
Why is atrial fibrillation dangerous?
This is a violation of the rhythm of the heart, in which there is a constant twitching and contraction of the atria. If this chaotic and constant movement is repeated for 2 days, the risk of blood clots and stroke will increase.
There are also special pills that contain nutrients from dark chocolate that are part of therapies to prevent heart attacks and strokes.
Chocolate also contains polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants. They activate the receptors for good cholesterol in the blood and reduce the level of bad. The more cocoa in the chocolate, the more polyphenols. And already many processes in the body depend on the level of cholesterol, including the work of the cardiovascular system.
Chocolate is high in potassium, which affects blood pressure and therefore heart function. Also, chocolate is a source of tryptophan, which contributes to the production of serotonin – the “hormone of happiness.” And a happy person has a healthy heart!
