Scientists from Aarhus University studied the effects of coffee on the sense of smell and sense of taste. They have discovered that this drink has the ability to affect the sense of taste. So that sweet food seems even sweeter if you eat it with a Cup of coffee.
Their study involved 156 subjects, they tested their sense of smell and sense of taste before and after drinking coffee. During the experiment, it became clear that the smell of coffee is not affected, but the sense of taste – Yes.
“People after drinking coffee has become more sensitive to sweets and less sensitive to bitterness,” says an Associate professor at Aarhus University Alexander Vik Fieldstad, who participated in the study.
Interestingly, the researchers conducted a re-test with decaffeinated coffee and the result was the same. Accordingly, the amplification effect does not belong to this substance. According to Fjeldstad, these results can give a better understanding of how the human palate.
