The research was carried out by Japanese scientists. They divided the volunteers into three groups, the first of which drank oolong for two weeks, the second – pure caffeine, the third received a placebo, that is, a drink without caffeine.
The results were published in the scientific journal Nutrients. They found that the drink improves metabolism due to the caffeine contained in it, which speeds up the breakdown of fat by 20 percent. In principle, this fact itself is not news: caffeine is in any tea. And it speeds up your metabolism by increasing your heart rate. Simply put, your heart beats faster, you lose weight. But! Any drink containing only caffeine stops working when you fall asleep, the researchers found. But oolong – no!
“Our findings can seriously help people who are overweight in controlling it,” says Professor Tokuyama of the University of Tsukuba in Japan. “We believe that oolong tea has a stimulating effect, literally breaking down fat.”
At the same time, the drink does not affect the quality of sleep. Unlike the same coffee, which is not worth drinking at night, unless, of course, you have to stay awake until the morning.
