American scientists accuse smartphones of destroying the human psyche. The researchers said that mobile phones can cause mental health problems in their owners. According to a study, 89% of Americans aged 18 to 23 have “phantom” vibrating alerts (the brain begins to respond to the gadget even if the device is completely turned off).
What evidence is there?
Biologists have found that because of the constant internal tension caused by stress, a protective “fight or flight” reaction occurs. This state was described in detail by the American psychophysiologist Walter Cannon. During this reaction, you may experience:
- narrowing or dilation of blood vessels;
- tearing;
- dry mouth;
- dilated pupils;
- feeling of a lump in the throat;
- increase in heart rate;
- increased sweating and others.
After “hit and run” a person feels weak, the immune system recovers for a long period of time. Severe stress can harm the immune system and completely suppress it. If this happens, then the person will be susceptible to various infectious and viral diseases.
Almost 85% of students during a scientific experiment told scientists that they very often go to e-mail or social networks without need. Experts attribute this primarily to a developed negative habit.
Robert Lustig, professor of pediatrics and endocrinologist, noted that smartphone notifications “train” the brain to be in a stressful state. Because of this, some parts of the cerebral cortex (responsible for will, self-reflection and abstract thinking) cease to function normally. As a result, a person cannot do 2-3 processes at the same time and he accumulates stress, a painful condition occurs.
Early symptoms of mental disorders
The characteristic symptomatology of a behavioral or mental disorder is a violation of thinking, a sharp change in mood and emotions. All mental health disorders have signs that are hard to miss close and dear people. Physical manifestations of such diseases are constant insomnia or, conversely, excessive sleepiness.
Emotional symptoms include anxiety, fear, sadness. Cognitive reactions are memory impairment, pathological inferences and confusion of thoughts.
Physicians consider behavioral symptoms to be aggression that spills out on people around them, inability to perform household tasks, and excessive use of psychotropic substances. There are also sensory-perceptual signs, when it seems to a person that he hears, sees and can touch some object that is not visible or heard by other people around him.
At the first symptoms, you should consult a psychotherapist. The doctor will find out the cause of the disease and will be able to prescribe an effective course of treatment.
Important: a mental disorder can develop in a woman and a man at any age, regardless of ethnicity and race.
