The topic of schizotypal mental disorders is gaining popularity today. Such an interest in various deviations is quite understandable — many people want to be special, not like everyone else. However, not everyone can «stand out» with something constructive, for example, knowledge of three languages, the ability to write poetry or play several instruments. So modern «divergents» are trying to establish themselves due to behavioral characteristics. And so that the efforts are not wasted in vain, and the claims of others do not put pressure on the psyche, it is most convenient to uniqueize this very psyche — to declare oneself a person with a “slight stupidity”. There is more interest in such, and the demand from them is minimal.
When are fears unfounded?
It is worth saying that with mental disorders everything is not the same as, for example, with bad habits. It is among alcoholics that the recognition of their own dependence on strong drinks is considered the first step towards recovery. A truly mentally ill person will never recognize himself as such, because for him everything that happens to him is quite real and fits into the picture of the world that has been formed over the years.
To understand the mechanism of occurrence and development of schizophrenia, some scientists who adhere to the theory of the viral origin of the disease have conducted a series of studies. Their essence was, first of all, in identifying the dependence of various diseases that patients had in their anamnesis and the actual presence of a confirmed diagnosis of schizophrenia. And here’s an interesting fact…
A fairly large group of examined schizophrenics was born during the cold season, when the body is subjected to a massive attack of various seasonal viruses, such as the influenza virus. In addition, an impressive proportion of patients with mental disorders in childhood or adolescence suffered encephalitis.
Scientists concluded that some infectious diseases slowly affect brain structures, which leads to the development of schizophrenia. But, despite this, it is impossible to say that all people who have had a viral infection are potential schizophrenics. However, follow-up of such patients will allow treatment to begin before the exacerbation of positive symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and catatonic disorder.
Despite the apparent harmony and logic of the conclusions, the theory of the viral etiology of schizophrenia and the opinion about its development as a result of the viral destruction of brain structures has not found understanding in the broad scientific community. Many scientists, for example, Doctor of Medical Sciences Isaak Gurovich, completely deny the dependence of the development of schizotypal disorders on viral diseases. Yes, statistics show the opposite, but, alas, it has not yet been confirmed by clinical and functional studies.
By the way, do not forget that schizophrenic delirium in patients with a sufficient level of intelligence can be very convincing. So much so that even healthy people can believe in it. But this does not mean at all that those who believed were «infected» with a mental illness. Just gullibility and naivety played a cruel joke with them. Recall that official medicine, which has spent decades studying schizophrenia, has not been able to accurately explain the causes of schizophrenia. The paradox of the situation lies in the fact that they have already learned how to diagnose the disease by symptoms, but it is not yet possible to say with certainty how schizophrenia arose and develops. Therefore, any theory can still be perceived as a probability.
