PSYchology

The word «schizophrenia» is so ingrained in our consciousness that as soon as the word «schizoid» is pronounced, an equal sign is immediately put between schizoid and schizophrenia. But, as a paranoid one, he is not paranoid, as an epileptoid, he is not an epileptic, as a hysteroid, he is not a hysteric, and a schizoid is not a schizophrenic, although, of course, he does not need to renounce madness, like a bag and prison. At the same time, after all, mentally ill people used to play a significant role in science, literature, and even politics. And most importantly, you can’t get away from the origin of the term.

Schizoids have traits similar to some of the consequences of a morbid schizophrenic process. And in this regard, they are just “-oids”. We note once again that it is precisely “-oids”, and not “-phrenics”. Schizoid traits arise as a result of upbringing. Psychiatrists and medical psychologists emphasize this quite clearly. So, as we noted in the introduction, we will have to come to terms with the psychopathological origin of the terms. And at the same time, one must be aware that we are talking about a normal personality pattern, which in some schizoids “goes off scale” into accentuation and even psychopathy.
