Use a scatter plot (XY plot) to display scientific (statistical) data on a coordinate plane. Scatter plots are often used to see if there is a relationship between X and Y variables.
Line chart
To create a scatter plot with line segments, do the following:
- Highlight a range A1:D22.
- On the Advanced tab Vstavka (Insert) in section Diagrams (Charts), click Insert scatter (X, Y) or bubble chart > Point with straight lines (Scatter > Scatter with Straight Lines).
Note: Notice the subtype of the chart with smooth curves.
Result:
Note: We have added labels for the horizontal and vertical axes. The horizontal axis of a scatter plot is the value axis, so you have more options for scaling it (just like the vertical axis, which is always the value axis).
Scatter chart
To see if there is a connection between X (Salary) and Y (Car Price), follow our instruction:
- Highlight a range A1: B10.
- On the Advanced tab Insert (Insert) in section Diagrams (Charts) click Insert scatter (X, Y) or bubble chart > Point (Scatter > Scatter with only Markers).
Result:
Note: We have added a trendline to clearly see the relationship between the two variables.
