Scar patches – application and contraindications

Silicone scar patches are effective in the prevention and care of various types of scars: post-traumatic, burn, and caesarean. The patches are convenient to use and effective. Previously, ointments, hyaluronic creams or silicone gels were used instead of patches.

Scar patches – application

Silicone patches are applied after the wound closes. The therapy lasts from 2 to 6 months. The silicone plaster can be used from the moment the wound is scarred and healed. The plaster is adjusted to the wound, its size is cut and glued to the scar. Manufacturers of patches recommend changing every 3-5 days, but the most effective results are obtained after changing the patches every day. Peel off the patch and clean the scar with neutral soap, dry it thoroughly, then put the same patch on again. Remember to remove the patch when bathing.

Thanks to the patches, scars become more elastic, the skin becomes smoother and the swelling disappears. Silicone patches are comfortable during the puerperium – they do not cause pain and itching of the wound. The skin is protected against rubbing from clothes and thus against contact with bacteria and drying of the skin. Thanks to the patches, hypertrophic scars will not be formed, the skin can breathe freely. Silicone patches are odorless, non-staining, almost invisible. Their effectiveness is clearly visible after two months of proper use – we can see a clearly brighter and less visible scar.

Scar patches – contraindications

The scar patches should not be used if you are allergic to silicone. We do not use them on open wounds that are not completely healed, exuding wounds, burns, mucous membranes, as well as in the case of dermatological diseases that prevent the use of silicone-based products.
