A scar is usually the result of an injury to the skin, undergoing surgery and surgery, acne, or the appearance of other skin lesions. Consequently, there are several types of scars, and recently stretch marks are also included in this category. The most common are hypertrophic scars that appear immediately after a mild trauma wound has healed.
How are scars formed?
When the skin is damaged, many cell divisions and intensification of regenerative processes take place within it, as a result of which the injured part of the skin gradually begins to significantly differ from other, healthy parts. Initially, this area may be very visible and swollen, and may have a strong and unnatural color. Over time, however, the scar will diminish and lighten. Various scar preparations can be used to accelerate skin regeneration.
Some scars can take a long time to heal, also because there are three basic stages of wound healing:
- the inflammatory phase, i.e. the stage in which the bleeding stops and the wound is cleaned,
- the growth phase, in which fibroblasts play a large role, i.e. connective tissue cells responsible for the production of collagen that supports the scar,
- the differentiation phase, followed by maturation, scarring and epithelialization, which lasts the longest.

Healing preparations for scars
Treatment preparations for scars can be started after the wound has healed. In the treatment of scars, silicone gels can help, including heparin, allantoin, onion extract, ointments or creams, containing, for example, mother of pearl that favorably affects the metabolism of skin cells and stimulates the production of collagen fibers, showing strong regenerative properties of snail mucus or Asian Pennywort and Scots Pine extract, which may support wound healing and collagen production.
The offer of Medonet Market includes, among others mother of pearl cream for scars, gel with snail slime for scars and stretch marks, as well as silicone patches for scars.
Creams for scars with retinoids
Scar creams are cosmetic preparations that can significantly reduce and lighten a scar. Scar creams usually have a richer formula than gels. They can show not only softening and protective properties, but also moisturizing the top layers of the skin.
They are very popular creams with the so-called retinoids, which are derivatives of vitamin A. This is because the scar cream containing retinol derivatives has a strong exfoliating effect, thanks to which the skin can be more intensely stimulated and, consequently, regenerated faster.
One of the tasks of retinoid scar creams may be to help smooth the skin surface within the scar.
The preparation can be used regularly, rubbing a certain amount of cream at least twice a day. However, it should be remembered that the scar cream is slowly absorbed. Due to the risk of too fast wiping off the skin surface, the cream should not be worn tight-fitting clothes.
