Boletus boletus is an extremely poisonous mushroom. Fortunately, neither its appearance nor its smell encourage collection. It is quite rare, and the fungus is extinct in most countries. Cases of poisoning with boletus are extremely rare, but it is worth knowing what to do in the event of symptoms.
Boletus boletus is a poisonous type of mushroom. He is also called the devil, satan or the dragon’s head. It has nothing to do with the boletus, although it may look a bit like it at first glance. Satan’s boletus is characterized by a purple stem, and with time the smell of carcass or rotten onion appears in older mushrooms. This mushroom is rarely found in Polish forests. However, it is worth knowing what the symptoms of boletus poisoning are and how to act in such a situation.
Satanic boletus – occurrence
Satanic boletus occurs not only in Europe. They can also be found in Morocco, California and Washington. However, this species is very rare and is considered to be dying out.
In Poland, the boletus has the E status on the “Red List of Plants and Fungi of Poland”, which suggests that it is critically endangered with extinction. It also has a similar status in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Estonia, Great Britain and Slovakia.
In Poland, it can be found in the Kaczawskie Mountains and in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. These are usually sunny places in deciduous forests. The devil’s boletus grows there in groups, usually in the vicinity of oaks or beech trees.
Satanic boletus – characteristic features
The boletus cap can be up to 25 cm in diameter. Young mushrooms are ashen, gray and gray in color. They change their shade to olive with age. Satan’s boletus turn purple in case of injuries. Young mushrooms have semicircular caps that become convex and slightly curved. Older mushrooms have smooth or suede hats.
The core of the Boletus mushroom grows to a height of 12 cm and a thickness of up to 10 cm. It is yellow at the top, slightly pink in the middle and brown at the bottom.
The flesh of the boletus is white, cream or pale yellow. After incising the boletus, the flesh turns blue. The taste of boletus is mild, and the smell is not too intense in young specimens. Unfortunately, with time, the boletus begins to give off the smell of rotten onions or carcasses.
Satanic boletus – symptoms of poisoning
Boletus Edulis is a highly poisonous mushroom. Its poisonous properties are the result of toxic resins that humans are unable to digest. After eating boletus, the following symptoms of poisoning appear within 3,5 hours:
- Headache,
- ailments from the digestive system,
- blurred vision,
- Pressure drop,
- collapse
- watery eyes
- profuse sweating,
- erythema on the face.
Satanic boletus – treatment
In the event of poisoning with boletus, vomiting should be quickly induced. This way we will prevent poisonous substances from getting into the blood. Then go to the doctor and take the remnants of the eaten meal with mushrooms with you. It is not worth detoxifying yourself at home because you can harm yourself. The patient must not be given water. Treatment is aimed at preventing liver damage. Fortunately, poisoning with boletus is extremely rare.
