Mexico is the birthplace of the original soft drink with a tart, spicy taste. Literally translated, the word “sangrita” means “blood”, which is associated with the bright red color of the cocktail.

At home – in Latin America – the drink has long been washed down with tequila. Over time, the tradition was adopted in Europe, modifying the original recipe and creating many popular analogues on its basis.

Classic Mexican Sangrita is made with oranges, pomegranates, limes and chili peppers (ground or in sauces). European gourmets include tomatoes in the recipe.

The world-famous “Bloody Mary” is very close in composition to tomato Sangrita, but contains alcohol.

They drink Sangrita in one gulp immediately after alcohol, or drink drinks alternately, first taking a sip of one, then another. Snack on a slice of lime. Also common is mixing drinks (100g tequila and 200g sangrita).

It is better to take juices for a cocktail freshly squeezed, but it is acceptable to use high-quality ready-made ones. Chili or cayenne is used as ground pepper. Pomegranate juice can be replaced with celery root ground in a blender.

Ingredients

  1. Orange juice – 30 g

  2. Lime juice – 30 g

  3. Pomegranate juice – 15 g

  4. Ground hot pepper / Tabasco sauce – ¼ tsp.

  5. Jalapeno pepper – 2-3 pcs.

Method of preparation

  1. Grind jalapeno with a blender, combine the mass with juices.

  2. Mix the drink thoroughly, add ground pepper.

  3. Send the drink to the refrigerator for a couple of hours.

Vegetable sangrita

Limes can be replaced with 1 lemon. Optionally, Tobasco sauce (15 ml), chopped celery (60 g) and cucumber (100 g) are added to the drink.

Ingredients

  1. Tomato fruits – 0,8 kg

  2. Orange – 3 pcs.

  3. Lime – 2 pcs.

  4. Onions – 100 g

  5. Ground chili pepper – 2 tsp.

  6. Sahar – ½ no. l.

  7. Salt – 1 tbsp l.

Method of preparation

  1. Release the tomatoes from the skin and seeds, beat the pulp with a blender to a state of gruel.

  2. Squeeze juice from citrus fruits manually or with a juicer.

  3. Finely chop the onion, grind with a blender.

  4. Combine juices, tomato and onion gruel, pepper, salt, sugar in a glass container.

  5. Place the drink in the refrigerator for 2 hours.

As a dressing, Mexicans use a mixture of Jugo Maggi, Salsa Valentina, Worcestershire and Tabasco sauces. They can be replaced with finely chopped green chili peppers.

Ingredients

  1. Tomato juice – 0,5 l

  2. Lime juice – 0,2 l

  3. Orange juice – 0,1 l

  4. A mixture of hot sauces – to taste

Method of preparation

  1. Mix all ingredients thoroughly.

  2. Cool or add a couple of ice cubes.

Sangrita “Playboy”

The number of components can be proportionally reduced or increased.

Ingredients

  1. Tomato juice – 0,4 l

  2. Orange juice – 50 ml

  3. Grapefruit juice – 50 ml

  4. Lime juice – 50 ml

  5. Tabasco sauce – 6 drops

  6. Salt – 1 pinch

Method of preparation

  1. Combine juices, add sauce.

  2. Stir the drink, salt.

  3. Chill before serving or toss in an ice cube.
