Make a salty rim on your highball glass.
Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.

History of the Salted Dog Cocktail
The Salt Dog cocktail was invented in the US state of Texas by Russian sailors and local cowboys.
It is a well-known fact that the first card game of the state was considered to be Texas poker – the most popular type of poker today. When tired cowboys after hard work played poker in a bar, Russian sailors also came there, who knows how they got so far from the sea. The sailors had a lot of vodka with them, while the cowboys preferred gin with grapefruit juice. Already quite drunk people decided to mix their favorite drinks together, and the result was a rather unusual cocktail that it occurred to someone to add salt. This is how this drink was born. The name came up with it there: at dawn, when the coyotes howled, someone shouted to the bartender in a drunken voice: “Hey, bring us this salty dog.”
Such a legend circulates in bars and restaurants in Texas, when diners ask for a strange cocktail that includes grapefruit juice and salted gin. No one can guarantee for sure whether this story actually took place, but tourists are satisfied.
