Two of the dozen children who poisoned themselves with food served in the kindergarten in Chotomów two weeks ago are still in the hospital. Salmonella was found in the egg paste and croquettes that the children ate.
Doctors caring for children who were admitted to the hospital in Chotomów on March 30, 2017 with symptoms of food poisoning, immediately suggested that it could be salmomella. They were right. Sanitary inspection showed that salmonella was present in the egg paste and meat croquettes.
There were also irregularities in the sampled water, which were defined as “exceedances in the physicochemical parameters – ammonia and odor”. The official announcement says that they do not pose a direct threat to life and health, but just in case, the water from this intake is no longer used for drinking and preparing meals for preschoolers, but only for washing hands and for household purposes.
After the incident, the kindergarten was closed and the facility was cleaned and disinfected. The facility is open from Monday, but the meals are provided by the catering company.
The investigation into food poisoning of preschoolers from Chotomów was initiated by the Warsaw prosecutor’s office. Investigators are to clarify the circumstances of the case and investigate who is responsible for it. A person who inadvertently led to food poisoning in many people who had to be treated in hospital faces up to three years in prison.
