Sachol is a dental gel that has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, and additionally has a local disinfecting effect. It is a medicine intended for use in the oral cavity. The gel was created to combat inflammation of the oral mucosa, gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Sachol – indications

Sachol is intended for topical application to the oral mucosa. It is a drug supporting the process of treating periodontal diseases, herpetic stomatitis and other diseases of the mucous membranes in which there is inflammation, painful erosions and mouth ulcers. An indication to using Sachol gel they are also:

  1. recurrent mouth ulcers;
  2. recurrent herpes;
  3. erosive form of Wilson’s lichen;
  4. glandular cheilitis;
  5. multiforme exudative erythema of the mouth.

Sachol gel it can also be used during mucositis in people who wear dentures and struggle with allergic stomatitis. In addition, Sachol can be used as adjunct therapy in the treatment of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and in the local treatment of radiation lesions resulting from cancer radiotherapy.

Sachol – action

Sachol is a dental gel intended for topical application in the oral cavity. Its composition includes a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic and antipyretic properties, i.e. choline salicylate. In addition, Sachol also contains a quaternary ammonium derivative with bactericidal properties against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, i.e. cetalkonium chloride.

The mechanism of action of NSAIDs is the inhibition of cyclooxygenases, i.e. enzymes involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins from lipids in cell membranes. They play an important role in the development of inflammation, therefore, by inhibiting their synthesis, the gel has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. Importantly, the gel used topically and in the amounts indicated by the manufacturer has no systemic effect on the body.

Sachol – composition

Composed of Sachol dental gel enters:

  1. choline salicylate – 87,1 mg;
  2. cetalkonium chloride – 0,1 mg;
  3. hydroxybenzoic acid methyl – 1,5 mg;
  4. propyl hydroxybeznoate – 0,8 mg;
  5. gel base – up to 1 g.

Sachol – contraindications

Even if they appear indications for the use of Sachol gel it cannot always be used. The main contraindication is allergy, i.e. hypersensitivity to salicylates or any other component of the drug.

In addition, Sachol gel should not be used:

  1. in children under 3 years of age;
  2. in women in the third trimester of pregnancy – salicylate derivatives are prohibited.

Sachol – side effects

In time using Sachol dental gel certain side effects may occur. However, it should be remembered that the risk of their occurrence is usually not high, and the benefits of using the preparation outweigh the possible risks. The most common side effects in people using Sachol gel are:

  1. stomach pain;
  2. hypersensitivity reactions;
  3. nausea.

Sachol – dosage

Sachol gel is intended for use on the oral mucosa. During diseases of the mucosa, Sachol can be used in the form of compresses or by gently rubbing small amounts of the gel 2-3 times a day for a few minutes. However, in the case of periodontal diseases with developed inflammation and / or pathological conditions in periodontal pockets, Sachol is introduced inside the pockets, applied in the form of compresses or gently rubbed into the affected gums. This is best done 1 or 2 times a day.

After applying the gel, do not eat or drink any food for the next 30 minutes. Remember not to use the gel in children under 3 years of age, and in children under 3 years of age, and in older children, use it only under the supervision of a doctor and on his express recommendation.

Sachol – interactions

Like any drug, Sachol in combination with other drugs can have a negative effect on health. That is why it is so important to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications. The manufacturer has no information on possible food interactions of the gel.

Sachol – precautions

Remember that certain illnesses and other circumstances may constitute contraindication to the use of Sachol gel or may require a dosage adjustment of the formulation. In certain situations, it may be necessary to undergo regular check-ups.

Sachol is intended only for external use in the mouth within the mucosa. The preparation should not be swallowed! After applying Sachol gel a transient burning sensation may appear. Methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate in Sachol gel may cause allergic reactions, which may also be delayed.

Sachol gel is not recommended for breastfeeding women as choline salicylate may pass into breast milk. On the other hand, pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking any preparation. During this time, it is very important to clarify any doubts related to the possible risks and benefits of using a given preparation during pregnancy.

Unfortunately, there are no studies on the absorption of choline salicylate as a result of topical application to the mucosa, but it should be remembered that the use of salicylates in the third trimester of pregnancy is completely contraindicated.

Importantly, if the product is used as recommended, no interactions with other preparations should occur.

In case of accidental overdose, the effects of other anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic drugs may be enhanced or modified.
