Two years during which Sergei Dovlatov edited the New York Russian-language newspaper The New American, he later called the happiest in his life.
It was at this time that he created stories that were later included in the most popular collections «Zone» and «Ours». However, the editorial columns that appeared weekly in the pages of the New American signed by Dovlatov were still unknown to the general reader. It was they, together with the story «The Invisible Newspaper», describing the same period of the writer’s life, that formed the backbone of the current book, prepared for publication by Dovlatov’s daughter Katerina and his widow Elena.
