One-eyed rowing (one-eyed lepista) is a conditionally edible species that forms colonies growing in straight rows or in a semicircle. Lamellar fungus belongs to the family Rows of the genus Lepista. The fruit body has a good taste and a slight aroma.

Where does the one-eyed row grow

The first rows appear in the spring in the Krasnodar, Stavropol Territories and in the southern regions of the Rostov Region. From the end of summer to mid-October, the one-eyed lepista bears fruit in the Middle lane. In the European part, the species is practically not found. Rows prefer to settle in open sunny areas among low grass or under low shrubs on moist soil. The main accumulation is observed at the edges of mixed forests, near water bodies, on roadsides. Single rowing does not grow, forms numerous families arranged in a semicircle or in a row. There are densely populated areas in which the caps of the fruiting bodies seem to be fused.

What does a one-eyed lepista look like?

One-eyed rowing is a mushroom of medium size, the maximum height of adult specimens is 10 cm, there are also low representatives (up to 5 cm).

External characteristic of the one-eyed row:

  1. The lepista cap changes shape as it matures: in young specimens it is cone-shaped, then flat with a pronounced convexity in the center, during the period of biological ripeness it is flat with concave edges. Diameter – 5-20 cm.
  2. The surface is smooth with a slight gloss, gray in color with a brown tint. There are instances in which the main color is diluted with a purple tint.
  3. On the upper part, concentric circles and a rare scattering of watery spots are well defined; this feature gave the name to the species. With a lack of moisture, spots may be absent, but this phenomenon is rare.
  4. The coloring along the edge of the hat is several tones lighter than the center, it looks like it is covered with frost.
  5. The pulp of the fruiting body is dense, thick, light gray. The old lepista is friable, with high humidity it becomes fragile, watery.
  6. The smell of the one-eyed rowweed is weakly expressed, pleasant, with light floral notes. The taste is thin, sweetish, mealy.
  7. The spore-bearing plates are large, rarely located, tightly fused with the cap, with a smooth transition to the stem. The edges are uneven, slightly wavy. Color light gray or brown.
  8. Spores are elongated, very small, filled with pink or dark beige powder.
  9. Leg length – 3-10 cm, width – up to 2 cm, cylindrical shape, tapering at the top, expanded near the mycelium. The leg is straight-growing, with a dense arrangement of fruiting bodies curved. The structure is solid, fibrous, loose. Leg of the same color with plates.
Important! Overripe lepista fruiting bodies are dry, tough, often with numerous insect larvae, and therefore not suitable for consumption.

Is it possible to eat a one-eyed row

Lepista is included in the category of conditionally edible species due to its unexpressed taste and weak smell. There are no toxins in the fruiting body. The mushroom does not require pre-boiling. Overripe rows are not used for culinary purposes. The lepista has a high content of protein, which, when decomposed, releases chemical compounds that are toxic to humans.

The taste of the mushroom

Ryadovka one-eyed tastes like champignons, mushrooms are characterized by a high gastronomic assessment. The taste is pleasant, slightly sweet. The smell is subtle, fruity. On the cut, the fruiting body does not darken, which simplifies the processing of mushrooms.

Benefits and harm to the body

The chemical composition of the one-eyed row contains a set of vitamins and trace elements that are beneficial to the body. The low calorie content of the processed product allows lepista to be included in the menu of overweight people. A high protein content replenishes the necessary supply in the body of vegetarians.

Microelements and vitamins:

  • increase immunity;
  • improve the functioning of the digestive system;
  • lipids in the composition restore liver tissue;
  • normalize cholesterol levels;
  • improve the condition of the cardiovascular system.

One-eyed lepista is able to absorb and accumulate harmful substances and heavy metals in the fruiting body.

The use of mushrooms is contraindicated:

  • if you are allergic to the product;
  • if metabolism is disturbed;
  • with digestive dysfunction;
  • with gastritis in the acute stage.

Not recommended for children under 3 years of age, women during pregnancy and lactation.

The fungus is classified as a row, but it grows in dense growths, which can be located at a considerable distance from each other. Hats in adult specimens are curved, have wavy edges. The legs are short and thick. The color is grey-brown. The composition does not contain toxic elements, but the product does not represent nutritional value. Not recommended for use without prior boiling. The remaining representatives of the genus Lepista are similar in appearance and have the same gastronomic characteristics.

Collection rules

One-eyed rowing is collected in glades located far from industrial enterprises and highways. Lepista does not grow in the shade of the forest. Cut off the leg with a knife. Old specimens, as well as damaged fruiting bodies, are best left unattended. If possible, immediately clean the leg from the remnants of soil and mycelium – this measure will save time on processing at home.

Use

Before cooking, the rows are soaked for 10-15 minutes in salted water with the addition of vinegar or citric acid. If there are insects in the fruiting body, they will float to the surface. The remnants of dry grass are removed from the cap and stem, the spore-bearing plates are not cut off. After processing, the row is washed and used for cooking. Lepista can be fried, cooked soup, stewed with potatoes. Mushrooms are salted, pickled and dried, they are suitable for winter harvesting.

Conclusion

One-eyed rowing (one-eyed lepista) is a conditionally edible type of universal use. Fruiting bodies with good taste and low odor are used for cooking and preparations for the winter. In the southern regions, rowing appears in May; in the Middle lane, the collection occurs at the end of summer.
