Rutovit C for increased need for vitamin C. Dosage, side effects of the drug

Rutovit C is used in states of deficiency or increased demand for vitamin. C and auxiliary in excessive vascular permeability. Rutoside contained in the preparation strengthens capillary walls, prevents bleeding and enhances the effect of vitamin C by delaying its oxidation. The preparation does not contain sugar. The drug is in the form of coated tablets and can be obtained without a prescription.

Rutovit C – indications and dosage

Rutovit C is a preparation indicated for taking:

  1. in states of deficiency or increased demand for vitamin C,
  2. auxiliary in excessive vascular permeability.

Drug dosage

Rutovit C is in the form of tablets to be taken orally. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation, as it may pose a threat to your life or health.

  1. Adults. Preventive 1 tablet. 1 × / d,
  2. healing 1 tablet. 2 × / d.

Rutovit C and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Rutovit C are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. kidney stones,
  3. used in parallel with sulfonamides and aminoglycosides.

Rutovit C – drug warnings

  1. Caution should be exercised in patients with known haemochromatosis, sideroblastic anemia, cystinuria, thalassemia or gout, as high doses of ascorbic acid may enhance iron absorption.
  2. Patients with a deficiency of blood glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase are at risk of developing haemolytic anemia, which is caused by a high dose of vitamin C.
  3. Particular caution is recommended in patients with urolithiasis, where the risk of the formation and deposition in the urinary tract of urate, cystine and oxalate stones is increased.
  4. The ascorbic acid contained in the drug may affect the results of laboratory tests of blood and urine, such as: false negative results of tests for the presence of occult blood in the stool, increase of bilirubin in blood serum, presence of sugar in the urine, decreased activity of liver enzymes and lactate dehydrogenase, decreased urine pH.
  5. There is a risk that the results of measuring urine glucose in diabetic patients may be unreliable.
  6. People with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency and glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.
  7. The xylitol in this medicine may have a laxative effect.
  8. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking Rutovit C.
  9. Do not take doses of acid exceeding the daily requirement (about 80 mg per day) during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Rutovit C with other drugs

  1. Rutovit C intensifies the toxic effects of sulfonamides (possible occurrence of crystalluria).
  2. Preparations containing ascorbic acid should not be taken simultaneously with preparations containing copper and iron salts and preparations with oxidizing properties due to chemical incompatibility.
  3. Ascorbic acid contained in the drug and administered in doses greater than 1 g per day may reduce the effectiveness of tricyclic antidepressants, phenothiazines, aminoglycosides, sulfonamides, oral vitamin B12 preparations and may increase the blood levels of estrogens used.

Rutovit C – side effects

Taking Rutovit C in a dose higher than the recommended one may cause:

  1. increased oxalate excretion,
  2. stone formation in the urinary tract, especially in patients with urolithiasis or in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
