Rutina C forte for ascorbic acid deficiency. How to dose?

Rutina C forte is a drug used in the states of deficiency and increased demand for ascorbic acid (colds, viral infections) and as an auxiliary in excessive vascular permeability. The active substances of the drug are ascorbic acid and rutoside. The preparation is in the form of sugar-coated tablets and is dispensed without a prescription.

Rutina C forte – indications and dosage

Rutina C forte is a drug intended for use in states of deficiency and increased demand for ascorbic acid:

  1. colds,
  2. viral infections,
  3. auxiliary in excessive vascular permeability.

Dosage of the preparation

Rutina C forte is in the form of tablets to be taken by mouth. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation as it may pose a threat to your life or health.

  1. Adults. 2-5 tabl./d, prophylactically 1 tabl./d.
  2. children 3-6. the year of life individual dosing,
  3. children after 6 years of age 1-2 tablets / day

Rutina C forte and contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation is a contraindication to taking Ruitna C forte.

Rutina C forte – warnings

  1. Rutina C forte should be used with caution in patients with: haemochromatosis, hyperoxaluria (excessive excretion of oxalic acid in the urine), renal dysfunction, gout, urolithiasis, cystinuria, hypokalemia, and hypercalcemia.
  2. The use of high doses of ascorbic acid (more than 1 g daily) in patients with nephrolithiasis should be avoided.
  3. The preparation contains lactose; patients with hereditary disorders of galactose intolerance, the lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not use the preparation.
  4. The use of Rutina C forte by pregnant and breastfeeding women is not recommended.

Rutina C forte with other drugs

  1. Ruitna C forte increases the effect and toxicity of oral anticoagulants (warfarin derivatives) and sulfonamides (risk of crystalluria).
  2. Vitamin C contained in the preparation increases the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, it may also intensify the side effects of acetylsalicylic acid (mainly effects on the gastric mucosa).
  3. Ascorbic acid may interfere with laboratory tests that are based on redox reactions (false negative results for faecal occult blood and urine glucose).

Rutina C forte – side effects

The use of Rutina C forte may cause:

  1. nausea,
  2. vomiting,
  3. indigestion,
  4. diarrhea,
  5. rash,
  6. headache.

High doses of vitamin C (more than 600 mg per day) cause a diuretic effect, may cause acidification of the urine and, consequently, crystallization of oxalates, urates and calcium citrates in the urinary tract.
