Rustic interior, designer tips

With the help of rustic style, worn wood and warm blankets, we turn a typical dwelling into a cozy village nest where you can hide from the bustle of the city. How to do this, tells the stylist of “Leroy Merlin” Alain Podmasco.

It is not without reason that the rustic interior has become so popular among residents of megacities lately. Natural elements of rustic style give a feeling of connection with nature, and things with history warm with the warmth of memories. It is pleasant to hide in such a cozy nest after a hard day’s work and take a break from the eternal movement of the modern world.

Tuning into a rustic atmosphere

The basis of the rustic style is simple forms, rough materials, natural shades and rustic decor. In a country house, it gives a feeling of comfort and harmony with nature. In the apartment – it helps to take a break from the frantic rhythm of the metropolis and relieve stress from the continuous flow of information.

In the rustic style, there is no place for glossy surfaces, rhinestones, acid colors and pretentious forms of furniture, but things from an old country house, a brutal rough tree and natural decor in the form of cones and branches will look appropriate.

Naturalness and naturalness

The rustic palette is characterized by muted and natural colors: brown, beige, gray, as well as all shades of natural stone and wood. At the same time, it is no longer light shades of wood, as in the Scandinavian style, that are appreciated, but dark or faded colors, with a clear touch of time.

It is better to select materials for creating a rustic style with a hint of antiquity, naturalness, reliability and elegant brutality. The main emphasis in the interior should be made on wood with minimal processing, scuffs and notches. If you have high ceilings, try decorating them with decorative wood beams. You can also sheathe the accent wall with a board or wallpaper it with imitation wood.

Shabby metal handles, aged doors, carved furniture and careless stonework can complement the interior and bring the atmosphere of a forester’s house into it.

Classic rustic is XNUMX% natural materials that will create a feeling of connection with nature. However, modern rustic allows replacing parquet with eco-friendly laminate, natural skin – with an artificial analogue and real masonry – with wallpaper with imitation stone. They look no worse, but they are more profitable at cost and are not so harmful to the environment.

We change the kitchen corner to the table from the forester’s house

Take your time to change the entire kitchen interior, try to introduce one rustic element and update the decor. If you have a modern white kitchen set, you can put a massive table made of solid sawn wood and heavy chairs – they will become a spectacular accent in the room. A hunting chandelier with horns as the main lighting will help add stylish brutality to a bright kitchen. Knitted rugs on chairs, pottery, a marble mortar, cast-iron pans and wicker fruit baskets will add comfort to the room.

Modern rustic accepts oxymorons in the interior: the rustic atmosphere will be stylishly combined with innovative technology, and the brutal wood or stone wall cladding – with a minimalistic glass kitchen table and transparent plastic chairs. However, such elements should not be seen in isolation from style. Be sure to support them with other items, such as glass candlesticks, fruit vases, or spice and oil jars and bottles.

We decorate the living room with branches

For textile decor in a rustic style, natural fabrics like linen, burlap and matting are used. Chocolate-colored curtains combined with plain beige and brown pillows, warm skin and a knitted blanket will add coziness and warmth to the room. Heaps of branches, pine cones, bouquets of lavender or apples in glass vases will look fanciful in the living room. Also, paintings with animals, wicker baskets, old chests, a coffee table in the form of a stump and even an armful of firewood are used as interior decor.

We take out grandmother’s floor lamp from the mezzanine

In a country house, in addition to the main lighting, there are many spotlights. One decorates the coffee table near the armchair, the other illuminates the stairs, the third illuminates the dining area, and the fourth illuminates the seating area near the sofa. Spot lighting creates an atmosphere of privacy, warmth and coziness. In this case, it is not necessary that all lamps are stylistically the same. Suppose you found one in the store, the other was taken by your grandmother from the mezzanine, and the third was given by friends for the wedding anniversary. Each decor element should have its own unique story.
