History of the Russian flag cocktail
The Russian flag cocktail appeared in Russia in the early 90s, when, firstly, the operation of Gorbachev’s “prohibition” ended in the country, and, secondly, hitherto unknown types of alcohol began to appear, such as liquors, whiskey and alcoholic syrups.
The only drink available to everyone at that time was vodka, and it is this that is one of the parts of the Russian flag liquor.
In this cocktail, grenadine syrup and blue curacao liqueur are “superimposed” with a bar spoon, and then vodka is added.
Without mixing, the ingredients form the colors of the Russian tricolor due to the different density of the liquids.
The name “Russian flag” did not come to the cocktail right away.
Initially, the drink was called “New Russian” – this is how people who suddenly became rich were called in the early 90s.
This name was due to the fact that the bars, where professional bartenders prepared quality cocktails, could only be visited by people with wealth, much above average.
In addition, the cocktail itself was very expensive due to the fact that liquor and syrup were difficult to obtain and very expensive.
Then the name was transformed into the New Russian Cocktail, and then into the Russian flag.
Cocktail variations Russian flag
With milk – in the original recipe, vodka is mixed with low-fat milk in such a proportion as to “paint over” transparent vodka white.
