Almost any rum has caramel notes from molasses, so it is no wonder that this imitation contains a lot of caramel syrup – zhzhenka. The recipe is designed for as much as 20 liters of raw materials, in addition to the original ingredients, the drink should be ennobled by a long aging in a barrel. How to make rum at home according to this recipe if you don’t have a barrel? Use oak chips – this article details what they give the drink, how to prepare them and how to use them for steeping.

So, for 20 liters of distillate or sorting 45-50% you need:

  • sugar (for caramel) – 500 ml (400 g);
  • oak bark (soaked in boiling water) – 50 grams;
  • vanilla sugar – 10 g;
  • ground coffee – 2 tsp

Everything is prepared simply – all the ingredients are poured into a bottle, filled with alcohol and infused in a dark place for 2 weeks, with occasional shaking. For the last couple of days, do not touch the drink so that the turbidity settles, after which it is decanted, and the precipitate is filtered. Further, the author recommends letting the drink rest in an oak barrel. How much is not specified, the more the better. According to tasters, this drink resembles the Guatemalan Zacapa rum.

Homemade rum with prunes and herbs

  • 45-degree distillate or diluted alcohol – a little more than half a liter;
  • good dried prunes – 15 grams (4 medium);
  • dried apple branches with leaves – 15 grams;
  • oak chips – 15 grams (more possible);
  • caramel syrup – 10-15 ml;
  • pine nuts – 12 pieces;
  • grass and chicory flowers – 3 g;
  • 2 grams of dried flowers of sage, sweet clover, yarrow grass, heather and St. John’s wort;
  • 1 gram each of cardamom, clover flowers, bison and dried black elderberries.

As we can see, there are a lot of ingredients, and if you don’t have something, you can get by, especially from the last two points.

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a jar, pour alcohol and send for 10 days in a dark place, shake daily.
  2. Strain through several layers of gauze, pour the drink into a jar, returning prunes and wood chips to it.
  3. Keep the drink for another week, then carefully filter, if necessary, slightly sweeten (preferably with black cane sugar).
  4. Again put the jar of wood chips for settling, this time for a month. After this period, re-filter and taste.

It is produced by JSC “Ussuriysky Balsam”, this is, as it were, not the most famous drink of this plant. “Rum” has a rich dark color, aroma of oak and spices with an expressive rum note. To prepare it on our own, we need:

  • 1 liter of 50-degree sort (well-purified double moonshine);
  • 75 grams of sugar;
  • 10 ml caramel syrup;
  • 5 grams of soaked oak bark;
  • 1 large prunes;
  • 1-2 cloves;
  • a pinch of cinnamon, lemon balm, ground black coffee and nutmeg.

Making a drink is easy. Prunes, oak bark and coffee are poured into a jar, caramel is poured into the same place, everything is filled to the top with alcohol and infused in a dark place for 7 days, the jar needs to be shaken daily. A week later, spices and lemon balm are added there. Everything costs another 7-10 days, after which it is thoroughly filtered through a dense filter. Separately, you need to prepare a syrup from the specified amount of sugar, cool it and pour it into the drink. Let it rest for another week, if necessary, repeat the filtration. That’s it, you made “Captain’s Rum” from alcohol at home!
