Rue

Cultivation of fragrant rue

Ruta prefers to grow on gravelly, loamy or calcareous soils. The plant is drought tolerant. The plant does not like excess moisture in the soil. Rue is not a whimsical plant, since it does not need special conditions for growing, and it can grow in one place for about 5 years, giving a good harvest.

Rue can be propagated by seeds. To do this, you need to collect the seeds and sow them for the winter, as they will sprout only after 5 months from the date of planting. You can plant the seeds in boxes for seedlings. To do this, you need to prepare boxes with soil and sow seeds in them in the month of March. After 1 week shoots will appear. When the frosts pass, you can land in a permanent place. Plants can be repotted if desired.

Throughout the year, seedlings will not grow above 12 cm. Before winter, seedlings are covered so that they do not freeze. In the spring, they remove the shelter from the seedlings and remove dead and frozen branches from the plants. After pruning bad branches, the soil is fed with nitrogen fertilizer.
