Rubital Paracetamol – indications, dosage, contraindications, side effects

Rubital Paracetamol is a drug used in pain of various origins (e.g. neuralgia, migraine, bone, joint, muscle pain, postoperative pain) and fever. The drug is in the form of a syrup and is available without a prescription. The active substance of the syrup is paracetamol. The dosage of the preparation is determined individually by the physician based on body weight.

Rubital Paracetamol indications and dosage

Rubital Paracetamol is a soothing drug:

  1. neuralgia,
  2. bone pain
  3. arthralgia,
  4. muscle aches,
  5. toothache,
  6. postoperative pains,
  7. fever.

Dosage

The dose is determined individually according to body weight. The preparation is administered orally in the form of a syrup and the recommended daily dose should not be exceeded.

  1. Children 10-15 mg / kg bw.
  2. Adults and children over 12 years of age 300-600 mg every 4 h or 480-960 mg every 6 h.
  3. The maximal dose during short-term use – 4 g / day, in the case of chronic use – 2,6 g / day.
  4. Do not use more often than every 4 hours. Do not exceed the dose of 65 mg / kg b.w./d.

Rubital Paracetamol and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Rubital Paracetamol are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. severe liver and kidney failure,
  3. alcoholism.

Rubital Paracetamol warnings

  1. Do not use the syrup in adults for more than 10 days, and in children for more than 3 days (without a doctor’s recommendation).
  2. Children up to 2 years of age may take the preparation only on the recommendation of a doctor.
  3. Check that other taken preparations do not contain paracetamol in order to avoid overdosing.
  4. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
  5. Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired liver or kidney function.
  6. Toxic liver damage may occur if alcohol is consumed while on treatment.
  7. People who are hungry and drink alcohol regularly are at risk.
  8. Pregnant and lactating women may take the drug only after consulting a doctor.

Rubital Paracetamol with other drugs

  1. Paracetamol enhances the effect of coumarin derivative anticoagulants.
  2. Do not use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping treatment with these preparations, due to the possibility of agitation and high fever. The use of drugs that increase hepatic metabolism, such as rifampicin, antiepileptic drugs, certain sleeping pills or alcohol consumption may cause toxic liver damage, even when using the recommended doses of paracetamol.
  3. The use of paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs increases the risk of renal dysfunction
  4. Metoclopramide accelerates and anticholinergic drugs delay the absorption of paracetamol from the gastrointestinal tract.
  5. Probenecid, metyrapone, salicylamide, cimetidine, antipyrine, isoniazid, ranitidine, propranolol – prolong the action of paracetamol.
  6. Paracetamol increases the effect of caffeine.
  7. The use of paracetamol may affect the results of laboratory tests, e.g. blood glucose determination.

Rubital Paracetamol – side effects

  1. The following may occur: urticaria, erythema, skin inflammation, pigmentary purpura, haemolytic anemia.
  2. Very rarely, the following may occur: thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, methaemoglobinaemia. Long-term use of high doses may cause renal and / or hepatic impairment.
