Isatis. Isatis root in extract form is said to have antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. In a controlled clinical trial on 60 subjects, a Chinese herbal medicine (Huanglan) containing isatis root, astragalus and a variety of fern (Drynaria rigidula) was as effective as an antiviral drug ( ribavirin) to fight the rubella virus1.
