Royal Legend on whiskey is a whiskey-based drink produced by the Belarusian factory Kristall. A solid bottle is decorated with a label with a crown, a sonorous name is easy to remember. But what lies behind the words “based on whiskey”? Let’s try to figure it out.
Historical reference. In the 2009st century, the Belarusian plant “Kristall” introduced consumers to high-quality and affordable imported alcoholic beverages: tequila and rum. In XNUMX, the company began producing whiskey “with history”.
It is clear that such whiskey cannot be cheap. To reduce costs, the company buys aged spirits in Scotland, and dilutes them locally with Lux brand alcohol and softened water treated with black flint. The result is a drink with a similar, but less intense taste and aroma than the original whiskey.
“Royal Legends” is made on the basis of three-year-old Inver House Green Plaid whiskey, which has been produced since the 50s of the XX century. The brand is owned by Hedges & Butler, which has been trading wines and spirits since 1667. Starting in 1830, the company supplied liquor to the British and several other European royal courts.
The name Royal Legend (“Royal Legend”) was not chosen by chance. It echoes the name of the original drink: the Norwegian king Somerled, who founded the Kingdom of the Isles in the Hebrides and in the western part of Scotland in the XNUMXth century, was nicknamed the Green Plaid.
In 1998, Hedges & Butler acquired another major Scotch whiskey company, Ian Macleod Distillers. It is a family business founded in 1933. It is known for the highest quality products, and in 2018 it became the winner of the Whiskey Awards.
Whiskey Inver House Green Plaid is a blend of spirits produced at five Scottish distilleries:
- Balmenach;
- Speyburn;
- Knockdhu;
- Balblair;
The Pulteney distillery is located near the coast, so connoisseurs even detect a subtle hint of salty sea wind in the aroma of Inver House Green Plaid.
Characteristics of the drink
Whiskey drink Royal Legend has inherited a slightly weakened smell and taste of the original whiskey. The aroma harmoniously intertwines wine-vanilla, marzipan, apple tones. The grain component with notes of dried fruits and white wine is clearly noticeable in the taste, the bitterness is softened by a slight aftertaste of milk toffee. The aftertaste is a bit dry.
