The setting of Roy Jacobsen’s novel is a quiet island in the north of Norway. That is why the tragedy that blows up the closed world looks especially incredible: the daughter of the owner of the fish factory is found dead, and the only person who wants to understand what happened is her friend, the local fool Yun.

His straightforwardness and seeming inability to double play allow him to get to the root of what happened. However, not everything is so simple: closer to the finale, the reader realizes that Yun is not a completely reliable narrator, and the surrounding reality is more multidimensional than it seems.
