Roxitron – indications, contraindications, dosage

Roxitron is an antibacterial drug for systemic use. Macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It is recommended in infections such as tonsillitis, superinfections in the course of acute bronchitis or in the case of inflammation in patients who are not in clinical condition. Roxitron can be obtained with a prescription and comes in the form of tablets.

Indications for taking Roxitron

Roxitron to antybiotyk makrolidowy stosowany w leczeniu zakażeń bakteryjnych. Stosuje się go w leczeniu następujących zakażeń, wywołanych przez drobnoustroje wrażliwe na roksytromycynę:

  1. tonsillitis (angina) caused by streptococci,
  2. acute sinusitis when beta-lactam antibiotics cannot be used,
  3. exacerbation of chronic bronchitis,
  4. superinfections in the course of acute bronchitis,
  5. community acquired pneumonia in patients without risk factors and who are not in a severe clinical condition and if there are no symptoms suggesting pneumococcal infection (in the case of suspected atypical pneumonia, use of the drug is indicated, regardless of the severity of symptoms),
  6. skin and subcutaneous tissue infections with a mild course,
  7. non-gonococcal infection of the genital organs caused by chlamydia or ureaplasmas.

Roxitron and contraindications

Przeciwwskazaniem do stosowania Roxitron są:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or to other macrolide antibiotics.
  2. During treatment with roxithromycin, any of the following preparations are contraindicated: astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, terfenadine, ergot alkaloids (ergotamine or dihydroergotamine).

Dosage

  1. Adults: 150 mg twice a day (morning and evening), every 2 hours.

Roxitron film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water. The tablets should be taken before a meal.

Note:

  1. Dosage adjustment is not necessary in the elderly.
  2. Roxitron is not intended for use in children.
  3. The use of Roxitron is not recommended in people with severe hepatic insufficiency (eg cirrhosis of the liver with jaundice and / or ascites); However, if the doctor considers the use of the preparation necessary, then he or she will recommend an appropriate dose reduction and regular monitoring of liver function parameters. If liver function deteriorates, the doctor will consider discontinuing the preparation.
  4. Liver function parameters should also be regularly monitored in people with liver dysfunction and in those who have had liver problems in the past in connection with the use of macrolide antibiotics.
  5. No dosage adjustment is necessary in people with renal insufficiency.
