Rowan tincture: 6 recipes at home

Unlike chokeberries, red rowan has an incredible aroma and taste. This is a real find for lovers of delicious home-made alcohol.

Tips before starting

  1. It is better to collect mountain ash after the first frost, then the fruits become softer and a little sweeter. Also, frost can remove the bitterness that is characteristic of this berry.

  2. Try to use juicy and large fruits. Ideally, take cultivated varieties that are simply made for delicious drinks.

For the preparation of rowan tincture, food alcohol, vodka, double distillation moonshine, and, of course, cognac are suitable. Cognac is already a classic, which is very fond of our people.

Now let’s move on to the recipes. We have prepared for you three of the best drink options that you will definitely like.

Soft tincture on rowan

About ten liters of aromatic drink will come out of the indicated amount of ingredients.

Ingredients

  1. Red rowan – 6 kg

  2. Food alcohol (45-50%) – 6-8 liters

  3. Granulated sugar – 500 g

Method of preparation

  1. Peeled, washed and slightly dried mountain ash is laid in layers in a glass bottle of a suitable size, alternating with sugar.

  2. Now we fill in the prepared alcohol base, it should completely cover the berries. Leave for a month in a dark place at room temperature.

  3. During the first week, periodically add alcohol so that the berries are constantly under the “alcoholic blanket”.

  4. A month later, pour the tincture into a clean container and pour the second portion of alcohol. We insist under the same conditions for another 1,5 months.

  5. Then the second infusion is mixed with the first and filtered.

  6. Pour into bottles and leave in a cool place for at least 2-3 weeks to stabilize the taste.

  7. The longer the rowan drink will stand, the richer its taste and aroma will become.

Fragrant rowan on cognac

Ingredients

  1. Rowan – 250 g

  2. Cognac – 500 ml

  3. Honey – 1,5 Art. l

  4. Oak bark – 1 tbsp. l.

Method of preparation

  1. We sort out the mountain ash, remove spoiled berries, combs and other debris. Then wash it and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. Pour prepared fruits into a glass container, pour cognac, add honey and oak bark.

  3. Mix thoroughly until the honey is completely dissolved and leave for 1-3 months in a dark, cool place.

  4. The finished infusion is drained and left for a few more months, until completely clarified.

  5. Before tasting, we filter the drink and bottle it.

Classic rowan tincture

Ingredients

  1. Red rowan berries – 1 kg

  2. Vodka – 1–1,5 l

  3. Sugars – 250 g

Method of preparation

  1. We process rowan in the same way as in previous recipes.

  2. Pour the prepared fruits into a glass container and fill it with an alcoholic component. We leave for three weeks in a dark and cool room.

  3. You can sweeten the drink a little at this stage if you like.

  4. We filter the finished rowan tincture and bottle it.

  5. Before tasting, it is advisable to keep the drink for another couple of weeks.

Tincture of red rowan and oak bast

Ingredients

  1. Rowan – 1 cup

  2. Honey – 1 tbsp. l.

  3. Oak bast – 1 tbsp. l.

  4. Vodka – 500 ml

Method of preparation

Place a glass of selected berries collected after the first frosts in a bottle, pour vodka, add honey and pieces of oak bast (this is the part of the bark that is adjacent to the wood, to get it, just cut and peel one branch). Cork the bottle and insist for several months.

Red rowan and apple tincture

Ingredients

  1. Red rowan – 500 g

  2. Fragrant ripe apples – 1 kg

  3. Sugars – 300 g

  4. Vodka – 1,5 l

Method of preparation

  1. Rinse the mountain ash, collected after frost, thoroughly, put it in a colander, let the water drain and separate the berries from the stems.

  2. Wash the apples, dry them, remove the core and cut into rings.

  3. Lay the apples and mountain ash in layers in a large jar, sprinkling each layer with sugar, then pour vodka so that the fruit is completely covered.

  4. Tie the neck of the jar with gauze and leave to stand at room temperature for 2-3 months until the berries discolor.

  5. After that, filter the tincture, bottle it and store it in a dark and cool place.

Alternative recipe for red rowan tincture

Ingredients

  1. Water – 1 liters of water

  2. Vodka – 500 ml of vodka

  3. Red rowan – 2 dense brushes

  4. Sugars – 30 g

  5. A pinch of citric acid

Method of preparation

  1. Remove the rowan from the branches, sort and rinse. Let the water drain.

  2. Boil water, add berries and bring to a boil.

  3. Immediately remove from heat and drain in a colander.

  4. Transfer to a jar, add sugar and citric acid, mix.

  5. Pour vodka, close the jar, leave for 5 days.

  6. Then drain the tincture, strain, store in tightly corked bottles in a dark, cool place.
