Rowan shrub: varieties
Ornamental mountain ash is often used to decorate personal and garden plots. A shrub planted around the perimeter of the territory will not only protect from prying eyes, but will also become a natural part of the overall landscape design. And also mountain ash is very harmoniously combined with other ornamental bushes and fruit trees.
Rowan ornamental – general description
The decorativeness of mountain ash was noted by our ancestors, they planted it in the front gardens next to houses to decorate the territory. Now many new varieties have been bred, which not only serve as a source of useful berries, but also look great on the plots due to the variety of shapes and colors.
Features of decorative varieties:
- Crohn – the shape of the crown can have a pyramidal or columnar outline. Some ornamental varieties can be erect or have branches hanging down to the ground.
- Leaves come in a wide variety of shapes and colors. They can have a simple toothed shape, and sometimes almost solid, when only the lowest lobes of the leaf are completely separated from the rest. The color also depends on the variety of mountain ash.
- Berries – in autumn, rowan clusters with bright berries attract special attention. Modern varieties, unlike ordinary mountain ash, can have very different colors. A shrub hung with bunches of large white berries looks very original.
It is believed that when shaping the design of the site, it is best to use shrub varieties; with their help, you can create hedges or stylish landscape compositions.
The most popular varieties of decorative rowan
With a successful selection of a variety, in addition to a hedge of rowan bushes, you can create a beautiful background for plantings of perennial plants. And also it will stand out favorably in a company with viburnum, barberry or spirea bushes. The following varieties of mountain ash are very decorative:
- Variety “Kene” is unique in its creamy almost white color of berries, which stand out very effectively against the background of red autumn leaves. The shrub is medium-sized, an adult plant reaches a height of 4 m. The flowering period is from May to June.
- The “Red Tip” variety is a slow-growing shrub with a conical crown, it grows up to about 5 m. Fruits are red-pink, capable of not crumbling for a long time. It can be used both as a hedge and as a single planting.
- Variety “Pendula” is an ornamental tree with long flexible branches, shaped like a weeping willow. Looks attractive at any time of the year, but especially impressive during the flowering period. The fruits are bright red, large.
Almost all varieties of mountain ash are a godsend for your garden. The plant is very unpretentious and resistant to negative environmental influences. It fits perfectly into any style of landscape design, be it a plot of a modern country cottage or a modest 6 acres in the country.
