Rostil as a medicine for varicose veins is to improve the peripheral circulation. The main active ingredient of the preparation is calcium dobesylate monohydrate. Its action takes place in the endothelium of the walls of veins, capillaries and lymph vessels
Rostil – action
Calcium dobesylate is a substance that reduces the capacity of capillaries, strengthens them, regulates microcirculation and prevents exudation. Thanks to the properties that prevent blood stagnation and the formation of blood clots, it increases the tension of the vein walls, and additionally stimulates collagen synthesis. Rostil stops the aggregation of platelets and seals the vessels of the lymphatic system, thanks to which it reduces swelling, reduces the feeling of heavy legs and the pain associated with these symptoms.

Rostil – indications
Thanks to its properties, Rostil is recommended for people struggling with symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities. They include, among others muscle cramps, pain, tingling, swelling, skin changes due to venous retention.
Rostil – contraindications contained in the leaflet
Unfortunately, despite so many advantages, Rostil is not a preparation recommended for everyone. Hypersensitivity or allergy to its ingredients is the main contraindication to taking the drug. There are also diseases and ailments that are an absolute restriction on taking the drug. In some situations, it may be necessary to perform specific follow-up tests. In people suffering from severe kidney failure, doses may be reduced by the doctor.
Granulocytosis, characterized by fever, sore throat, mouth infection, or other symptoms of infection, is a rare side effect following administration of the drug. In the event of their occurrence, a medical consultation is necessary. People with gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, or chronic, relapsing catarrhal gastritis should exercise caution when taking this medicine.
Additionally, due to the lactose it contains, it is not recommended for people who are intolerant to milk sugar. Rostil has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Rostil – side effects
As with any other medication, Rostil may have side effects. Rare symptoms include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and drug fever.
Very rarely, agranulocytosis (a decrease in the number of granulocytes, a type of white blood cell that makes you more likely to get infections) or an itchy rash with erythema has been observed.
Rostil – dosage
For symptomatic treatment of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities, the recommended dose should be:
In adults: 500 mg (2 tablets) to 1000 mg (4 tablets) daily. Rostil should be used with a meal.
Remember that Rostil, like any other, should be taken as described in the patient information leaflet or according to the doctor’s or pharmacist’s instructions. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Taking Rostil can last from several weeks to several months. If you take more than the recommended dose, immediately contact your doctor or pharmacist.
If you miss a dose of Rostil, continue taking it without increasing the next dose. Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Rostil – interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medications you are taking or have recently taken, and about any medications you plan to take. There is no information on the interaction of calcium dobesilate (i.e. a component of Rostil) with other drugs.

Rostil – pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Rostil. It should be remembered that Rostil must not be used in the first trimester of pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Rostil should only be used during pregnancy if the doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
Rostil – storage
Keep Rostil out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25˚C.
Do not use Rostil after the expiry date which is stated on the blister and on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month
