Experts arranged a real crash test for the first children’s transport. Not all took it out. But what is there, not all – there are almost no really cool strollers at all.
Perhaps, parents do not choose anything as carefully as a stroller for their child. And you won’t be able to take a stroller for a test drive, as in a car dealership. And to find out how comfortable and functional it is, what kind of controllability it has and whether it will fit into an elevator, you can only in practice.
Unfortunately, there are practically no strollers that can satisfy absolutely all the needs of demanding parents. These are the results of a study that jointly with the International Assembly of Consumer Testing Organizations (ICRT).
“Strollers with excellent maneuverability may not be the most convenient to store, and the most ergonomic strollers may not pass the durability test,” the researchers explain.
The experts involved parents in the tests: both moms and dads. They evaluated 38 popular models from 27 manufacturers. The strollers were tested on 176 metrics, divided into four categories: daily use, ergonomics, storage and transport, and safety.
“In the tests of convenience, the assessments of the parents turned out to be tougher than those of the experts,” said Roskachestvo. – For example, this is especially noticeable in assessing the comfort of the seat. Parents constantly thought that the child in the stroller was uncomfortable and cramped. “
At the same time, the parents themselves admitted: they had no idea what nuances the convenience actually consists of. For example, there were models in which everything seems to be fine, but … the brake pedal is made so that it scratches the shoes of an adult. It doesn’t seem important for child safety, but it’s not enough pleasant to walk with such a stroller.
This is actually the main requirement for a stroller. If somewhere in the park, far from home, a wheel falls off the cradle, what will you do? Therefore, here the researchers came up with the most serious tests. As part of the endurance test, the wheelchairs “drove” more than 200 kilometers on an uneven treadmill with imitation of bumps and potholes. For reliability, not only a mannequin was put into the stroller, but also a full shopping basket – our mothers usually walk through the store. Then the experts checked whether the stroller could pinch hands, feet, fingers, assessed the reliability of the seat belts, and in a complicated format: the dummy copied not just a child, but a naughty fidget. Well, the brakes, which have already been mentioned above. Scratched shoes are, of course, a trifle, the main thing is that they work as expected.

2. Is it convenient to carry the baby?
On a flat asphalt road, any inexperienced parent can handle it. And you try to take a walk in the park in late autumn and early spring, or in city courtyards, where through one there is a dead end or a curb.
Therefore, experts have estimated how maneuverable the stroller will be in different conditions. To do this, parents participating in the test drive were offered three “obstacle courses”: the first – with narrow corners and dead ends, the second – with curbs (consider that you crossed many roads with the stroller) and the third – with uneven surfaces and rough ground: our favorite gardens and parks. By the way, most of the strollers coped with the first point the easiest way, but the grass caused the most problems.
“Before buying, be sure to think about what you need: stability, but large size and weight, or lightness, threatening instability even with careful turns,” advise in Roskachestvo.

The maneuverability of the stroller depends on where it is to be driven. If you have to walk on narrow streets, strollers are not at all suitable for you. Many mothers are familiar with the situation when it seems to be written that the stroller is suitable for children under 3 years old, and at the age of 2 the crumbs drag their legs along the ground, and their head rests against the hood.
“In general, the strollers showed themselves worst of all in adjusting the height of the footrest,” the experts summed up. “This is a feature that manufacturers still need to work on.”

It turned out that in three quarters of the cases, the strollers are very difficult to clean. And 37 percent of them don’t have their covers removed at all.
