Definition

The Rosen Method is one of the areas of body-oriented psychotherapy. It relies on the notion that tension in the body results from the repression of emotions that a person cannot cope with. The Rosen Method relieves muscle tension and eliminates the symptoms associated with it.

Operating principle

Gentle touch helps to recognize chronic tension in the body and get rid of it. “The basic principle is relaxation, not doing,” says Marion Rosen in her book Bodywork (Psychotherapy, 2013). It allows you to interact with the unconscious. From this state, the patient can become aware of what is happening to him at the moment. However, none of the body therapists can explain the healing power of touch.

Progress

The session takes place on a massage table. The practitioner asks the client to strip down to their underwear and cover them with a sheet. During the session, the specialist gently touches the spasmodic muscles, observes the client’s breathing and facial expressions, and asks him about what he feels. Its goal is to give the client the opportunity, having relaxed, to realize what is happening to him — his body, consciousness, feelings — here and now. The practitioner does not wait for any specific result, he only contacts the reality of the body and invites the client to focus on their sensations.
