Rose wine: what it is and how to choose it in the store + description of tastes by shade

Rosé wine (blush) – a light alcoholic drink with a fruity taste, which has a very pleasant delicate red color.

Many people think that rosé wine is a mixture of white and red wines, which together give an unusual taste and a delicate transparent pink color. Naturally, this is not so. Rose (this is how this wine is most often labeled) is painstakingly created and has its own production standards.

Production technology

The most commonly used grape varieties for rosé production are: Grenache, Cinsault, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Malbec.

  1. The first method

First, the berries are crushed, releasing juice from them (grapes are used in all sorts of varieties, even red and black).

At this stage, white wine comes to mind – after squeezing the juice from the resulting raw material, the pulp is removed, but in rose wine everything is different – the juice is left to brew with the skin so that the coloring substances interact with the liquid.

The duration of this exposure is short – the wine is enough to stand for one night to get a pale pink color.

Then the rose is cleaned of unnecessary components and poured into a clean container, where the wine is fermented.

  2. second method

A less expensive way is a quick spin. After squeezing the berries, the skin is removed almost immediately so that the juice does not stain too much, but has a delicate and delicate pink sheen.

Wines made using this technology cannot boast a pronounced shade of pink – they are almost transparent.

The high cost of a bottle of rosé is due to the strict control of the production of these wines, as well as the complexity of the technology of natural wine coloring using pulp.

The opinion that the more time has passed, the better the wine becomes, it does not apply to rosé or blash. Rosé wine is usually not aged for more than three years. True connoisseurs drink a rose with a year or two years of aging: this is how the bouquet of the drink becomes as open as possible.

How to choose rose wine in a store

The homeland of rose wine is Provence, France – according to statistics, every third bottle was produced in this province.

A smaller volume of production went to Italy (Tuscany) and Spain.

Naturally, the price of rosé wine cannot be low. An acceptable price tag starts at $ 7 per bottle.

How to drink rose wine

  1. Wine is usually served chilled to 10-12 degrees as an aperitif, which goes well with all kinds of snacks.

  2. Someone, comparing blush with white wine, says that it is suitable only for white meat and fruits, while someone is of the opinion that rosé is combined with red meat and meat dishes. Such a light drink will make a good gastronomic pair with any accompanying dish due to its delicate taste and aroma.

  3. It is recommended to fill glasses halfway – this is how you feel the delicate aroma of wine.

  4. It is better to drink in small sips to appreciate the tenderness and delicacy of taste.

Often, rosé wine gives off fruity notes, partly sweetish-almond, vanilla splashes.

In the picture below, Whisk made a spectrum of colors, according to which you can roughly estimate which tastes prevail in a bottle of rose wine.
