Romania: West Nile virus has killed more people. There are already 21 fatalities

Four more people have died from complications following a West Nile virus infection in Romania. Within a month, 21 people died from the hemorrhagic fever in this country. So far, 200 cases have been reported.

The National Institute of Public Health reported on Friday another 30 people infected with the virus transmitted by mosquitoes. It was reported that the people who died also suffered from other medical conditions. The institute called on residents to use insect repellent, wear long trousers and brightly colored clothes.

Most people with the West Nile virus usually have no or mild symptoms of the disease. However, if the virus enters the brain, infection with it can be fatal as it causes meningitis, encephalitis, and other brain diseases.

The elderly, those with diabetes and those who have had organ transplants in the past are at greatest risk of developing West Nile fever.
