If Zemfira did not exist, it would have to be invented. Once, according to this formula, the king of rock and roll Elvis Presley was born. Ten years ago, the singer Zemfira was brought out along it, or rather, introduced into the dull world of Russian show business. In addition to undoubted talent, good professional training and the ability to listen to the right music, Zemfira had an excellent provincial grip, confident that in “a city that does not feel pain and does not spare anyone”, she will not have to wait for favors from nature. Her cassette came to producer Leonid Burlakov, who summoned the young talent to the capital and recorded a disc. Having heard the songs from the Zemfira album, the country yearning for bright female music started up. How many of them were there then, singing Russian divas? Pugacheva, Aguzarova – the list is exhausted. However, at first, the persons from the families reigning on the stage did not take the “girl from Ufa” seriously. When it turned out that half the country was crying over the revelations of a boyish girl, this working bone, which suddenly turned into a princess, there was nothing left for the powerful of the musical world but to offer her friendship and patronage. By the way, the image of a half-girl, half-boy, so typical for a young rock fan who sings Tsoi’s songs in underground passages, also played into Zemfira’s hands – she became her own for a very wide audience. Brilliant records “Forgive me, my love”, “14 weeks of silence”, “Vendetta” consolidated the success. Today, the secular, well-groomed and favored by all sectors of society, the singer is very different from the sharp and unrestrained in her statements Zemfira, who until recently was ready to fight with the forgotten security service at a concert. With her new album “Thank you”, she expresses respect for glamor and gloss. Will we see that talented, bright and cocky girl-musician for whom love and music decide everything? I want to believe.
Zemfira “Thank you”
The long-awaited, but also the most eclectic work of Zemfira. Fine-tuned lyrical lines and heartfelt images are mostly sacrificed here for semi-glamorous snickering (“take Chanel, let’s go home”) and Makarevich’s romance of the 70s and 80s with houses and ships. And foxtrot motifs, bossa novas and other splashes of champagne sometimes give off the shine of samovar gold. The place of Renata Litvinova in the album is designated as “laughter, screams, karma”. The first two components (laughter, screams) are an excellent characteristic for the whole album. In search of the latter, it is better to turn to the previous albums of the author.
