Robitussin Antitussicum is used for dry, tiring cough. The preparation contains a morphine derivative – dextromethorphan, which is a non-opioid drug with an antitussive effect. Robitussin Antitussicum is a drug recommended for use in a dry and persistent cough.
Dosage of the preparation
Robitussin Antitussicum is a syrup and should be taken orally. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the drug as it may endanger your life or health.
- Adults and children over 12 years of age. Orally. 20 ml 3-4 × / day (dose max. 120 mg / day).
Robitussin Antitussicum and contraindications
Contraindication to the use of Robitussin Antitussicum are:
- allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
- cough accompanied by a large amount of discharge
- asthma,
- liver failure
- respiratory failure or its risk,
- parallel use of MAO inhibitors,
- use by children up to 6 years of age,
- breast-feeding.
Robitussin Antitussicum – warnings about the drug
- If symptoms persist or worsen after one week, or if accompanied by fever, headache, or rash, please consult your doctor.
- The drug Robitussin Antitussicum contains ethanol (5 ml of syrup contains about 0,1 g of ethanol). Failure to follow the recommendations may be detrimental, especially in people suffering from alcoholism, in children, in patients with impaired liver function, and in patients with epilepsy and mental diseases.
- The preparation may cause allergic reactions and gastrointestinal disorders because it contains sorbitol, disodium edetate and sodium benzoate.
- Patients with impaired liver function should use the drug with caution.
- People who are intolerant to some sugars should consult a doctor before using the drug, because it contains sorbitol.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use Robitussin Antitussicum.
- The drug may affect the ability to drive motor vehicles and psychophysical fitness. People who carry out activities that require concentration (driving a car, operating machinery, working at high heights) should take this into account.
Robitussin Antitussicum with other drugs
- The drug Robitussin Antitussicum should not be used simultaneously with MAO inhibitors.
- The use of dextromethorphan with MAO inhibitors may cause drowsiness, nausea, high fever and an increase in blood pressure.
- Taking the drug with quinidine may inhibit the metabolism of dextromethorphan in the liver, increasing its concentration in the blood.

During treatment with Robitussin Antitussicum, the following side effects may appear:

- stomach pains,
- dizziness,
- somnolence.
