Roanne: a nursery in the station!

In Roanne, the station master is a woman. Another special feature of this station like no other: the old locker has become… a crèche! Bright colors, adapted furniture, play rugs, cots, yes, no doubt, this is an establishment for young children.

Very well soundproofed premises

The micro-crèche (it can accommodate nine children) opened in September 2010. The Rhône-Alpes region and the SNCF wanted to revitalize the stations and adapt them to the expectations of travelers. In February 2009, there was therefore a call for projects. And faced with suggestions for multisports halls, the loan of umbrellas or Wi-Fi access, the nursery won the day. The Garderisette company, of the Babilou group, carried out the project and is today the manager. The premises, owned by the SNCF, have been completely redesigned and redesigned so that children can evolve in a suitable space. to their needs and completely soundproof. Inside the crèche, it was impossible to hear the hustle and bustle of the station or to feel the vibrations of the trains. The dormitory rooms are not on the platform side.

As soon as a train arrives, Marie, 20 months old, rushes to the door, all in glass, directly on platform A. She loves trains, which is quite a good thing. Today, the 10:16 am Regional Express Train (TER) is on time. Three faces come to stick against the glass.

Crèche at Roanne station: intended for SNCF customers

Originally, the crèche wanted to offer this service as a priority to subscribers of Regional Express Trains (TER). This goal has not yet been achieved. Because the parents of the five registered children do not take the train! They got wind of the structure’s existence and tried their luck, even before the SNCF customers, who were the first targets, came forward. Nicolas, Emma’s dad, received a leaflet in the street. Karine, Marie’s mother, saw the information pass on the Internet. “I am currently unemployed, actively looking for a job. For me, this is an important criterion and therefore one less worry: I can look for work outside the city. I know I will be able to take the train, bring and pick up my daughter without any problem. ” The remaining places are however reserved for regular SNCF customers., those who, to go to work, frequent the lines providing connections between Roanne, Saint-Etienne, Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand. “In general, people think that this is a specific measure for SNCF agents with children,” says Nathalie Gamet, the manager. But not at all, it is the travelers who are targeted. »On the financial side, the cost of a place in the micro-crèche in Roanne, once the aid from Paje has been received, is equivalent to that of a maternal assistant.

Be careful, the station master is there!

Of the four employees of the structure, two are also former childminders. The team is delighted with their workplace

A nursery (almost) like the others

From time to time, a rather distracted user arrives to buy a ticket. He is surprised that we have to go through a door with an intercom, discovers, a little taken aback, an airlock with the obligation to put on paper overshoes and children’s toys instead of the counters. Sometimes an old lady persists: “But normally, here, it’s the luggage room!” ” Most travelers welcome a great idea, original and practical. The life of the nursery therefore passes at the rate of these little untimely visits, blue TERs that swallow or spit out more or less rushed passengers. For the rest, the activities are the same as in any structure: we play, we sing, we paint with our fingers, we sleep, we eat, we cry. And we read books about … trains.
