Rivanolum VP – composition, action, dosage, side effects

Rivanolum VP is a preparation for disinfecting the skin and mucous membranes as well as for superficial injuries of the body. The active substance of the drug is ethacridine lactate, which has an antibacterial effect (mainly against gram-positive bacteria). Despite the indications for the use of the solution, people who are allergic to any substance of the drug should not use it. The preparation is in the form of tablets for solution and is available without a prescription.

Rivanolum VP is an acridine dye and antiseptic with a strong bactericidal effect.

Rivanolum VP – indications and dosage

Rivanolum VP is indicated for:

  1. disinfecting the skin and mucous membranes,
  2. decontamination of superficial injuries.

Dosage

Rivanolum VP is in the form of tablets for the preparation of a solution that can be used in the form of compresses, rinses or soaps. The skin should be washed with a solution of approx. 1% concentration (1 tablet / 100 ml of boiled water).

Rivanolum VP and contraindications

A contraindication to the use of Rivanolum VP is allergy to:

  1. acridine dyes,
  2. any ingredient of the preparation,
  3. should not be taken orally.

Rivanolum VP – warnings

Rivanolum VP tablets are intended solely for the preparation of a topical solution.

  1. Wraps should not be applied to large areas of the skin.
  2. Avoid contact of the preparation with eyes and clothing.
  3. In case of hypersensitivity, the treatment should be discontinued.
  4. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may use the drug only after consulting a doctor and if necessary.

Rivanolum VP with other drugs

Rivanolum VP should not be used with oxidizing substances:

  1. potassium permanganate,
  2. hydrogen peroxide

and:

  1. mercury salts,
  2. alkali metal halides (e.g. table salt),

because these substances reduce the effect of the preparation.

Rivanolum VP should not be dissolved in solutions containing these substances.

Rivanolum VP – side effects

When using Rivanolum VP, the following may appear:

  1. allergic reactions,
  2. rarely contact dermatitis.
