Rivanol – composition, dosage, indications, contraindications

Rivanol is a liquid solution intended for direct application to the skin. It is a derivative of acridine, and its active substance is ethacridine lactate. It has a strong antibacterial effect. It is particularly good against streptococci, staphylococci and other gram-positive bacteria.

Rivanol – application

The properties of rivanol mean that it is used topically and superficially in the case of purulent infections of the skin, mucous membranes and wounds (including those difficult to heal), inflammation of the external urogenital organs, mouth infections, abrasions of the epidermis, burns and ulcers.

Rivanol’s task is to effectively disinfect the skin and mucous membranes. In the course of its action, it damages enzymes and directly inhibits the synthesis of microbial proteins on the skin surface and penetrates tissues.

Although Rivanol is mainly available as a liquid antimicrobial solution, there is also a similar formulation of Rivanolum VP in the form of dissolving tablets.

Rivanol – composition

The active substance is ethacridine lactate. 1 g of cutaneous fluid contains 1 mg of Ethacridine Lactate. The other ingredient is: Purified water.

Rivanol – contraindications to use

Rivanol should not be used on large areas of broken skin. It is not recommended for people who are hypersensitive to ethacridine, lactate or acridine dyes. Concomitant use of rivanol with other topical medicinal products, especially those with oxidizing properties (potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide), tannins (tannins), anionic substances (polyethylene glycol) and with sodium borate, salicylic acid and sodium chloride solutions, should be avoided.

Oral use is forbidden. Contact with the eyes should be strictly avoided. Due to the possibility of discoloration, it is recommended to avoid contact with clothing and bedding.

Rivanol and side effects

For rivanol, no negative effects on driving or operating machinery have been observed. The solution can also be used in children and adolescents. People of any age should not use it for a long time because it can cause allergic reactions.

At the first symptoms of allergy, discontinue use immediately. If any of the side effects worsen or if you notice any side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Rivanol – dosage

Rivanol is for direct external dosing only. You should wash your skin with it several times a day. It can also be used in the form of compresses placed on the skin, dips or rinses.

There are no data on use in children.

If you have the impression that the effect of Rivanol 0,1% is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor.

Data on overdose are not available when used as directed and recommended for use.

If you forget to use Rivanol 0,1%, continue treatment with Rivanol 0,1% as usual as prescribed.

Rivanol – interactions with other drugs

Tell the doctor or pharmacist about all the drugs taken by the patient now or recently, as well as about the drugs that the patient plans to take.

Rivanol – pregnancy

The fluid should not be used by pregnant women, as there have been no adequate clinical trials. Use of Rivanol during pregnancy is only permissible if the possible benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the baby.

Rivanol – breastfeeding

As in the case of pregnant women, the safety of the use of the fluid by mothers on children who are breastfed has not been studied. It is not known if the drug passes into human milk, therefore its use is not recommended for nursing women.

Rivanol – effect on fertility

There are no data on the use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Rivanol – storage

Rivanol should be stored below 25 ° C in a closed container. Protect from light. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. The expiry date after the first opening of the package – 30 days.
